THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Will have to wait a few days to pick it up because Virginia's background check office can't get it's shit together, but I am very stoked to get it. It was a hard decision, because of the myriad threads here decrying them. But I also went to other forums and saw a lot of praise. I boiled down the complaints to either 1) not completing the break-in process or 2) guns from a certain timeframe, but anecdotal evidence suggesting the newer guns are back to where they need to be. Also, I considered the phenomenon of the vocal minority...people with problems will always post, average satisfied customers don't necessarily. That doesn't discredit anyone with a problem, but I had to consider that a dozen or so negative posts don't necessarily represent the whole story on a firm that sold 10s of thousands of guns last year. So I dove in and bought. Hopefully I am a happy owner, and you don't get to say "I told you so." I'll let you know either way ;-) |

Break-in; That's funny
IMO...any gun that's $1,000 out of the box should shoot flawlessly. Good luckk |

Congrats. I just picked up an identical Pro CDP II, and it's been flawless for the first several hundred rounds.

I've got an early version of it, called the Elite Carry.
Its really boring to shoot. Eats everything, and shoots one ragged hole.... You're gonna love yours. |

I bought a used one a little while back. I've had a few hiccups, but I'll get it worked out. It is my favorite gun to shoot right now. It is so easy to remove the center of the target with that thing. I can't say enough about the way it shoots.

First 100 rounds today. I had 1 FTE. Considering the horror stories, I'm very happy thus far.
Now all I have to do is improve MY shooting with it. I started off very accurate, but started to go downhill after the first 50 rounds. I'm chalking it up to 1) Fatigue and 2) rushing. I was more foused on getting rounds through ti for the purposes of break-in and was rushing my shots, but also, the damn thing comes right back onto target so fast it's hard to resist the temptation to just pull the damn trigger again right away. So far, I have to admit I'm really liking it. Update: Second run of 100 rounds today. Performed flawlessly. Shot MUCH better with it today as well as I et the feel of it, and take my time. For some reason it's easier for me to jerk a shot low than it is with other pistols I own, which I chalk up to unfamiliarity with the platform. But when I take my time and focus on my fundamentals, this gun is right on the money. And it is a joy to shoot. I could have put several hundred rounds through it today no problem. I just want to follow the break-in instructions to a T and clean after every 100. Also, my pair of Wilson mags came in, and a nice new Milt Sparks Summer Comfort 2 holster. Nice. |

I haven't been able to continue the break-in due to work and travel, so today I played catch up. 200 rounds, almost all of them rapid fire. I planned to just do 100 and then go home and clean per the manual, but it was feeding so well, I just pushed through the 2nd 100. The Kimber performed flawlessly. And I'm no pistol marksman, but I was pretty thrilled with this performance rapid firing 200 rounds:
The high ones around the 8 aren't fliers, I put a few right there after the big hole developed, just to make sure I was still hitting paper So, I'm going to put another 100 of ball through it next week, and then start feeding it hollowpoints and see how she likes em. Will start with Speer Gold Dots, and if she likes em, stop right there. So far, I'm flat out thrilled with the performance of the Kimber. If it likes HPs, it will be my primary carry, no doubt. And I already like it so much it's making me contemplate trading some other guns in on a 2nd Kimber. |

Finished the break-in process today, and then some.
Headed to the range with a bulk pack of Blazer Brass 230 grain FMJ, 200 rounds. This is what I've been using to break-in the gun. Gander Mountain has it in the 200 round bricks, who am I to argue (although it's still pricey, will be buying online in bulk from now on.) I also grabbed two boxes of Speer Gold Dot 230 Grain HP. My preferred self defense ammo, and it got the seal of approval from the Dr. Roberts tests as posted on this wonderful forum: http://ammo.ar15.com/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm I ran through the first 100 rounds of ball, no problems. Performed flawlessly, and as I get more comfy with the 1911, the accuracy is just fantastic. The rounds go where you put them, that's for sure. The Kimber shoots better than I do, but I hope to catch up So, having completed the 500 round break-in, I decided to feed it the hollow points. I was pretty nervous, hearing all the stories of 1911s who eat ball, and nothing else, so I just hoped for the best. Despite not cleaning the gun at all after the first 100, it ate 32 rounds of Gold Dot with no issues whatsoever (I had 2 boxes of 20, and I saved 8 for carry. I'll push more through it once I buy some more online, but I feel comfortable enough to start carrying it with Gold Dots now.) After that test, I was extremely happy that the myriad problems you read about (here and elsewhere) didn't catch me. So I figured I was at the range, just keep going. So I shot through the other 100 rounds of ball. 232 rounds on the day, no cleaning, no issues, no signs of slowing down. With the last few mags I really slowed down and tried to make some nice groups, and I was easily putting 7 shots each into 3 inches. So the final report on my break-in of a NIB Kimber Pro CDP II is 632 rounds, 1 FTE in the first 50, otherwise flawless, and seemingly no issues at all with my preferred hollowpoints (though more testing is in order.) Suffice it to say, I have no reservations about having bought a Kimber, and I would (and will) do it again. My biggest issue now seems to be how I am going to grab that Eclipse Pro without my wife finding out about it. |

Mine REALLLY likes the Remington 185 gr Golden Sabers. One tiny little ragged hole I would not normally be able to shoot.
Surprisingly, it also shoots the 230 gr Remington UMC ball very well too. So thats a good practice round for me. |
