very interesting. I purchase the kimber aegis 2 9mm about a year ago and the thing is flawless. I have never had a problem with mine, I let a few of my buddies shot it and they each had FTE's.
I was like WTF let me see it, fired 2 mags with no falures. turns out they were just holding the gun like a girl. They tightened up their grips and kept the nose down and voila!

2 KIMBERS

SS Pro Carry ll three THOUSAND rounds shot through it - cleaned every 150 rounds as the gun seemed to be fitting tight .
ZERO problems . Nothing done except metal MSH put in it .

SS Ultra Carry ll 2200 Rounds fired through it . Recoil springs changed first day to Wolff Springs along with SS MSH . I hate plastic what can I say . Zero problems ZERO problems .

I use Wilson mags

I trust my KIMBERS and trust my life to them every day as they are my carry firearms .

In the 9mm 1911s I use for PPC, I run metalform mags. They make two different versions. The ones they make for Springfield have feed ramps built into the mags. The ones I use don't.

My roomies Kimber Crimson Ultra Carry II 45acp gives her fits with FtE's and FtF's but when I shoot it I get far fewer malfunctions but I do get them. She's tried different mags but continues to have problems. I'm convinced it's 80% bad grip and 20% Kimber quality issues. I've yet to have a single malfunction with my STI Elektra 45acp which is good but I really wanted a Kimber Covert also and I just don't know if I can trust them.

Do any 3" 1911's behave reliably?? I'm as big a 1911 homer as there is but I'd never buy a 3" gun.

I hate to say this, but my Colt Night Defender and my 9mm New Agent Colt run like a top. No problems with either. I've got a Kimber Solo, but I haven't been impressed with it so far. Recoil is stout and the mag insertion isn't great. Have had some reliability issues as well. I purchased it as a 9mm replacement for my Colt Mustang Pocketlite. I'm thinking it's going to be traded back in and I'm just going to keep the Mustang/J-frames for deep cover. I've owned seven Kimbers (including the Solo) over the years and from my experience QC and reliability on Kimber can be spotty. Same can be said for anybody including Colt, but last decade or so Colt has gotten their act together. I think the early Kimbers were across the board good to great. Then they got a little sloppy and I'm not convinced that they have fixed that yet. I've had issues with a CDP II Ultra, a CDP II carry, and the Solo. My Custom II with external extractor ran like a champ. Only reason I ended up getting rid of that one was I had a good trade offer on a nice Gold Cup and the guy wanted my Kimber.

I jumped into the Solo to give them another chance, but I think I'm going to back away for a while.
Part of the problem.

I can show you three.

I have no doubt they exist, but the percentage of non-working guns to working guns is not appropriate for guns of that price point.

SNIP

But on the off chance you get an unreliable Kimber, they will fix it, no questions asked and no additional charge - and that's bad?

SNIP

BULLSHIT. I sent two different Kimbers back, on MY OWN dime at ~$50/each. Customer service was not helpful at all, it took much longer than I was told it would take and the issue wasn't even resolved in the case of either pistol. I even went as far as to send the Kimber AEGIS back a second time (on my own dime again - brand new gun mind you) and the issue still wasn't resolved. The Kimber TLE that I sent back was rusting sitting inside my safe, I had NEVER even carried it and after 800 rounds the finish looked like I'd carried it for 5 years. Apparently, that's not covered under warranty and Kimber wanted an absurd amount of money to refinish it.

On the other hand, I purchased a Springfield TRP (USED!) and it had some pitting in the finish, so I called Springfield to inquire how much they would charge to refinish. I was sent a FREE overnight label and shipped it out on a Monday. On Friday, I had a BRAND NEW TRP sitting on my doorstep. Now that, is customer service - above and beyond.

+100 on Springfields customer service. I will stick with my Springfield 1911-A1 GI. Has never failed me clean or dirty, and I run mostly junk ammo for plinking. I would only own a Kimber if it was at a price I couldn't pass up. Then I would sell it.YMMV

Why is it so wet looking?

I've had my Warrior for a few years now. I've shot more matches then I can count most with the cheapest ammo I can get my hands on, unless I've had access to a reloading setup which does happen on occasion. I can tell you that I also can't remember the last time I've had any sort of malfunction. I know I had a small issue right when I got it but if I remember correctly it was a magazine that needed replacing. Anyway, of all the Kimber owners of the world I am probably one of the few who treats their gun like crap. The only "cleaning" mine gets is a wipe down and field strip on occasion along with a couple of shots of rem oil. She runs like a dream 100% of the time, why fix it if it aint broken?

So you got the pistol back from service and added a magwell and grips before you ever fired it again for function?

I would try different mags and adjust the extractor myself.

I've never had a problem with my Kimbers but they were both Pre Series II.

Better yet just send it to my FFL. I'll send you $50.

My Eclipse Ultra (45 acp) has been flawless.

Also my Kimber team USA, my sons Eclipse 5", my co workers pro carry too and honestly we do not clean our guns every 50 rounds,

I can say the same for my Springfield TRP and my S&W 1911sc,

And your point is? Tell me why changing the grip and a magwell matters in this situation with the FTEs. All my 1911s get the same treatment and this is the only 1911 I've had with this problem.

I'm glad you haven't had any problem with your Kimber and I hope you don't have any. But if ever you do I wouldn't insult you by offering $50 for it.

It wouldn't really matter on your FTEs but it would make sense to shoot it and make sure it was right before changing a bunch of stuff.

No offense intended I was just joshing you with the $50 deal.

Sorry to hear all you people with Kimber problems. I own two Kimbers. A Custom Target II and a Custom CDP II. I have not had one problem with either of them and both are very accurate. They both get used often and the Custom Target II has been run hard through all day combat handgun training courses. Their performance makes me feel very confident in their reliability and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one or recommend one if needed.
