(Having the Swartz safety actually makes it easier to remove and re-install the firing pin during cleaning.)

It just requires that you keep your hand off the grip safety when assembling and disassembling. Purists hate them, but not for any real reason. Love my kimbers, it's ok if you do too.

Posted: 10/8/2010 6:28:30 AM I removed the Swartz on my UCII and all the 80 series on my other 1911s. They could of worked with the firing pin safeties in but its no disadvantage to take it out as long as you use a standard or extra power firing pin spring since the stock springs that use firing pin safeties are usually shorter. I'm going to pick up an Eclipse next week and I'll probably leave it in for awhile but I know one day I'll be bored and just take it out since its really not needed except for sales to LE and states that require it.

Posted: 10/11/2010 9:23:47 AM I think most, not all pistol issues are operator induced. The Swartz is a very simple mechanism and most likely fails due to improper installation of the slide. If you are holding down the grip safety when installing the slide it will run right into the actuator possibly bending it. When I got my first Kimber I had to be mindful of this situation, I almost did it a couple of times myself. It's nice that SA has a series 70 system but the quality of their pistols in the lower price-point is way below Kimber in my experience. Wish it wasn't so, but it is what it is. Once you get over $1000 they seem about equal.
