Gent's,

I'm a Glock snob...that's all I own in terms of handguns. However, with the current HK promotion for 4 free mags, I'm seriously considering getting a VP9.

Just looking for some feedback from you guys that own both Glocks & HKs? I did look at one at my dealer yesterday, dry fired it a few times and I couldn't believe how good the trigger is!

I sold my Glock 34 and replaced it with a VP9.  I've since acquired another VP9 to which I've added a threaded barrel and suppressor sights.

What prompted my switch was how the gun fit in my hands.  I have small hands and Glock were always big for me.  The VP9 grip is great, but the best part for me is the mag release.  I don't have to shift my grip to eject a mag like I have to do on pretty much every other gun.

I think the HK is as accurate as the Glock, if not more so.  Trigger is nice out of the box.  Mag capacity is meh but not a deal breaker.

If you like accessorizing your gun, it doesn't get better than Glock, aside from maybe an AR or 10/22.  HK accessories are lacking to say the least.  Parts and mags cost more.  I'm willing to overlook all of that for a gun that actually fits better and works better for me.

I'm not a Glock snob, but I have carried a G19 Gen4 for the last few years with another G19 and G17 in the safe.  They do what they are supposed to do.  I bought a VP9 to try out after reading all the praise on here.  First time out shooting it I didn't like it but
2nd and 3rd time out I was much better with it and more accurate with it than the Glock.  I also recwntly picked up a Sig P320 carry model to try I out and compare,  but I'm still better with the VP9.

So after a 4th time out with it I am now selling off my Glocks and probably the Sig.  I also picked up a VP9SK on 4th of July weekend and I'm very impressed with it. I was nervous about the short grip, but due to the ergonomics it still shoots well.   It will probably be my new carry gun using one of the 15 round full size mags as a back up mag.

Closest to a Glock you'll get from H&K. Better ergonomics and you can change the grip to better suit you.

I say go for it and send me a mag for my consultation. I'll PM you my address

First time we were demoed on the range and shooting 3 mags of it I ordered one and sold my glock 19 and 17 as soon as I tested it with 1000 rnds issue 147 +P HST

out of 17 officers and brass, 14 dropped their duty carry and replaced with VP9. ( we had to supply our own sidearms, thru department payroll deductions but we own them and get free replacement in event of a OIS.)

I don't understand the VP9 infatuation at all.   It finishes 4th when compared to the PPQ, G19 and P320 imo.
Yes - I own all 4.
It's an alright gun but nothing to get all pouty about.

Nice choice.  My G19 is relegated to the safe now that I have a VP9.  It's all opinion, bit mine is that the vp9 has superior ergonomics, a superior trigger, superior accuracy when compared to the G19.  My vp9 also does not fling brass into my face

Love my VP9 and VP9SK. I was especially surprised that the SK shot just as well as the fullsize. My VP9 is my nightstand gun and my SK is my EDC.

For the money, they are really hard to beat. They are superior to Glock in every way except magazine capacity/size ratio, aftermarket support, and cost of magazines. I can live with those issues for the glove-like fit, the vastly superior trigger, and the accuracy. Plus the fact that they are G2G right out of the box and you don't have to drop in a bunch of aftermarket parts in it to bring it up to par.

I was tempted at a gunshow last weekend.  They were on sale and the 4 free mag deal almost reeled me in.  My steel challenge gun is a G34, and my carry gun is a G43.  I've been considering getting a G19 just to fill the gap, but I am strongly considering getting the VP9.  The only way that I could really justify it is if it replaced the G34 for competition (only because I want to standardize on one platform).

The mag capacity and barrel length are detractors to me though.  How the hell did HK manage to design a new full sized pistol with a 4" barrel and a mag capacity that was cutting edge in 1935?

Get a Taylor Freelance +5 magazine extension. It's what I've got on my fullsize. Rumor also has it that HK will be releasing some higher capacity magazines.

Interesting. Might make sense with them blowing out all their existing mags with their mag rebate.

The mag body for my SR40 is exactly the same outside dimensions as my P30 .40 mags, but it holds 15 rounds instead of 13. I think I can easily trim the follower and get 14 in it, I don't think 15 will happen because of the ribs in the walls of the mag body.

I'd still like to get one, only thing that scares me is the internals. Comparing one to a Glock is like a Swiss watch to a sundial

H&K magazines are designed for durability, reliability and longevity first, capacity second.
I have some P2000 magazines that are 15 years old and have been through dozens of high round count training classes and hundreds of days on the range being treated like shit. I've never changed a spring or even cleaned them and they just keep feeding rounds without a hiccup.

The VP9 internals aren't that much more complicated than a Glock, just different.
It does take a little more mechanical aptitude to take apart and put back together but it's not nearly as complicated as a legacy Sig or a Ruger MkII .22.

Aware, but it's coming to a point where the really need to examine the mag capacity and reliability and find a happy medium. I'd take a 10 year spring life over a 20 year spring life for an extra two or three rounds that most other makers have already figured out.

It's all preference.

I have a VP9. It's by far my favorite striker fired gun.

The wife prefers the PPQ.

The G19 has become the defacto generic gun.

The P320 is excellent, I'm sure, but feels cheap and the trigger break is like a soggy, rotten carrot.

Never had any Glocks, shot a few, but I mainly had S&W handguns, after I got my HK 45 T and shot a friends VP9, I sold the Smith and Wessons and this last week thanks to the 4 free magazines, I picked up the VP9. The difference between Smith and Wesson handguns and HK handguns (to me at least) is a massive difference.

VP9 mags are built for reliability and easy insertion when fully loaded which can't be said for many Glock models.  Going from a Glock to a VP9 reminds me of going from an SKS (my first centerfire rifle) to anything else 25 years ago...  wow, I can make nice groups at distance, I thought I just sucked.

I liked Glocks for their reliability, but I was always a much better shot with 1911s and Sigs.  VP9 is the first polymer striker fired handgun I have used that makes me question my love for metal framed handguns.

Hi, my name is Shawn and I'm a recovering Glockaholic.  My addiction started small back in the 90's when I purchased a "Defense set" of 2 Glocks, a 23 and a 27.  From there things spiraled out of control.  Coming from 1911's the Glocks were so cheap, so easy to work on, I had so much spare time!!  Soon my safe was full of the soulless little bastards.  Fast forward about 20 years and I finally decided to "upgrade" to some modern Glocks with the rails and the backstraps and all that jazz so I got myself a Gen4 G19.  Long story, short version, 4 Glocks in a row purchased by me had issues.  One day at the LGS I spotted a VP9, fondled it, bought it on a whim knowing almost nothing about them.  2.5 years and somewhere around 15k rounds later without a malfunction and needless to say, I'm a believer.  I admire Glock for what they were, cheap, reliable guns.  It hurts to say it but HK > Glock.

For the guys that got the VP9 mag rebate did HK want any additional proof of purchase other than the sales receipt?  I received an email today asking for a copy of the 4473 in addition to the sales receipt.

When I replied that my dealer will not give copies of the 4473 and asked what else I could send them as proof of purchase I received a reply saying that it would continue being denied if I could not supply adequate proof of purchase.

From what I can tell the deal gun is not the LE, as it has "luminescent" sights and not "night sights".

And only comes with 2 mags.

Still thinking about picking one up at that price though.

The only thing Glock has over any of the other poly pistols is aftermarket.
My only gripe in the HK is that I don't care for the cluttered rear sight picture.
It's odd shaped and the cocked striker indicator is annoying.  That's just nitpicking and not a deal killer.
Every single pistol has some faults I'll take a HK over a Glock any day but up until now the g19 is always been too good of a concealed carry pistol.
My vp9sk was just purchased yesterday and I believe it will be my new EDC over the G19.  I have a p10c too that's pretty nice but the grips are way too aggressive for IWB carry.

I've not modded my g19 at all aside from sights. I'd do that on any pistol though.

I do however want another g19 to mod. Why not, I built my ar15 from the ground up. Why would I not do it with a pistol if I could.
