The P226 is the must have Sig.  Which pistol is the must have HK preferably in 9mm?

All of them.

Though I am really liking my VP9

I wouldn't say there's one must have, because they all are.

Seriously though, look at VP9 (striker fired), USP and P30. All are great pistols for different reasons. If your looking for the true quintessential H&K the USP .40 full size is it IMO.

The VP9 is their best gun. I would highly recommend staying away from the P30 coming from a P226, you will hate the trigger

USPc 40 or HK45c.  I prefer hammers on my pistols.

Must have? Lotsa money, just like SIGs. They are both addictive, and tend to multiply.

Another vote for the USP SD - you get the threaded barrel for suppressor, ability to use the jet funnel kit, and 18 rd and 32 rd mags

Yeah, I got the Signess.  I'm pretty well cured as I have the models that I'm interested in.  I hear so many good things about H&K I thought I'd get some info from you guys and then lurk for a while in case I see a great deal.  I buy a lot of my guns used (like new) and if one pops up, I want to have my homework done in advance.

Another question - what thread pattern does H&K use on their barrels?

Sig guy

P30 L 9mm or USP full size 9mm

hind sight being 20 20 and all I wish I bought the L version since its the same height as the P30

BTW I prefer my short extractor P229 40S&W over my P30S V3 9mm.

I even like the Beretta  M9A1/ 92A2 over my P30S V3 9mm

I just bought a new VP9 so it may become my favorite HK, but I really like the full sized USP 9mm also. I guess that would be a fair comparison to the 226.

USP or p2000 or P30 or ....You really can't go wrong with any of them. I bought a used, beat up USP 9mm and it was a tack driver and recoil was nill. I did something stupid and traded it in on a wheel gun and regretted it. That pistol was accurate beyond belief.

Sig guy here too. I just bought my first HK over the weekend. Since my daily carry is a P226 and I shoot it quite well, I wanted a comparable piece from HK. I opted for the P30L V3, which is darn near the exact same size as a P226. The triggers are similar (assuming you don't have the SRT kit installed in your P226). DA stroke may be a hair longer but is a bar identical weight to the 226. Mine breaks at 10lbs. SA stroke might be a tad heavier with a smudge more take-up; mine breaks at about 5.5 lbs. I'm sure both will wear in and settle at a somewhat lighter weight. The SA reset is about like a stock (non-SRT) P226. I haven't shot it yet—hopefully today—but if I'm able to do with it what I can with my P226, I'll be entirely stoked.

See my avatar and take your pic out of the two. Home defense/range gun? USP. EDC and house gun and range toy? The VP9. Between the two I'd say USP9 or the P30LS because of the DA/SA which you're used to.

The USP. 9, .40 or .45, doesn't matter, great pistol.  I love mine, had to have it as soon as I got my sweaty meat-hooks on it.
