THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Step one- buy P30 mag Step two- buy mec-gar +2 baseplate for M9/226 (also works GREAT on the M&P if you shave a LITTLE material off the top) Step three- break the edge on the back of the magazine well on your P30 Step four- have fun with your dremel's grinding wheel, sanding wheel, and a wood burning kit. You can see where some material needs to be beveled on the back of the locking plate that comes with the baseplate. You may actually not need to file the back of the magwell, but I wanted to make sure that magazine would drop no matter what. Results:

Cool. Not something I'd do to my expensive gun but cool.

My guess is you could get it to work fine just by beveling the locking tab. Since I'm planning on running the shit out of this thing though, I wanted to make sure it would dump the mag even if it was a little dirty, so I created the little extra clearance. Honestly, theres more wear from speed reloads already back there than the minor filing :-)

Did you change the spring too?

In my experience they will wear out earlier because you are putting additional pressure on the springs.. When I did that with arredondo extensions they lasted about a year before I started experiencing FTF's... |

When I did that with arredondo extensions they lasted about a year before I started experiencing FTF's... No addtional pressure on the springs. They compress to the same point when fully loaded. The only difference is they have MORE room to work with, so they have to maintain enough power to continue to push upward in an area that previously...they did not. Regardless, I will keep an eye on it. |

Yes, you are correct I misspoke. I did the same thing with 16 round USP magazines and the arredondo +2 extensions. Because there was less tension they have to work harder to feed correctly and after a year or so they would cause FTF's for me.

Worst case, a wolff spring should fix it. I am happy to see though that HK has made significant improvement in their mag springs from the days when the USP was king and I had 5 of them. It APPEARS that these springs should have enough to keep em going, but only time will tell. Once the mag stops locking back, you'll hear about it here first! |

No magazine modifications required. It does require shaping obviously, but I'd be willing to bet you wouldnt even have to remove material from the grip of the P30. I did that first, and should have tapered the rear lock first.

Ordered the +2 extensions and will be doing the same. Thanks for the tip. We'll see how it works out.

Added extensions last night. They lock in pretty well and don't look like they'll be easily knocked off at all. Went through 50 rounds on each mag today. Locked back every time, fed all 17 rounds every time. Thumbs-up so far, but a lot more use needed.
For me, these are just gamer mags. I won't and wouldn't be carrying them for real use, so I'm happy with this so far.
Good tip, Marksmen, on which +2 extension to use. |

Glad it worked out for you! As far as the toughness of the magazine though....go nuts. Use it for whatever you want. These are the same magazine extensions that come on the M9 and extended 226 magazines which have proven to be solid as hell. I also use them on my M&P magazines, and they have been flawless for thousands of rounds.
These extensions are good to go, and I have yet to have an issue with a P30 mag, or an M&P mag with the factory spring, provided they were relatively new when I put the extension on. |

FYI for those wondering about Marksman's comments above, I didn't modify my gun at all. The bevel on the locking plate was sufficient for smooth loading and mag releasing cleanly on its' own. One thing I love about HKs is that the mags jump out when released and that still exists.
I did two mags which will be used to 3gun and other matches. Might end up doing a couple more. |
