The DA pull with the Match trigger is not that much different than the standard DA pull. If you really want a nice IDPA trigger you may well consider the LEM Combat Competition trigger which is a blend of the match and the LEM. It is smooth with a constant 4.5 pound trigger pull from start to finish, no DA to SA transition and you can retain the safety if you so desire but the decock will of course no longer function, but you don't need it anymore anyway. The standard match will have a 4.5-5 pound trigger pull but will still have a 10 pound DA pull, not really much different than the standard trigger but the match trigger will feel lighter because it is more smooth and crisp. The match trigger is also not a true drop in part and to get all it has to offer it needs to be fitted by HK, and if you are doing that, might as well have them fit the LEM Combat competition trigger. Once you try the light LEM trigger you may never go back to SA/DA again, match or not. I was a huge fan of the match trigger until I tried the light LEM and have switched all my shooters over to it, and the CC LEM is even better still which is what I have essentially put in my Tactical and Expert by using the LEM kit in conjunction with the Match trigger that was already in those pistols.
For the match trigger have you checked HK? They will have the triggers before anyone else does. My usual sources, Robert Johnson and HKpart.net both are out but checking with HK is just a phone call away. |

Does HK have to do the LEM installation...or is that something I can do myself? I'm very familiar with taking a USP completely apart, but if it requires fitting or modification to the frame then I wouldn't want to do it.

I hadn't thought of the LEM combat competition trigger. By the time I thought to call them they were closed for the weekend. I'm not sure I want to invest that kind of money into it though. How is the trigger reset? |

The LEM conversion is a fairly easy do it yourself and directions are posted in the Reference Library on HKPRO.com. However, to get the most out of the match trigger OR the Combat Competition trigger HK really needs to fit and tune it. The light LEM to me is perfectly fine for anything except the most serious competition use, then the CC comes into its own. My Tactical and Expert I converted to CC feels to me to be a better and more responsive trigger than my CCWs that I have converted over to just light LEM even though the trigger pulls are almost the same, within a half pound or so, but the CC with its match parts just feels better, sort of like how the standard match trigger feels better than the standard USP trigger even though the actual trigger pull weights are not that much different. There are NO frame modifications needed for either the Match conversion or the LEM or the CC conversions, not with the USP, USPC, HK45, or HK45C anyway. The Match and the CC cannot really be done on the Compact versions though (HK will not do them on Compacts, either the USPC or the HK45C) unless you retain the standard trigger or cut down the match trigger, which to me is partially defeating the purpose of the conversion.
Trigger reset with the LEM is .300 inch, with the standard SA/DA trigger the reset is .254 inch. If you can tell a .046 difference in reset your finger is a lot more sensitive than mine. |
