Stopped in my LGS over the noon hour.  He's sold 13 Colt 1911's in the last two weeks.  As I was there the UPS guy dropped off five new Gold Cups, all pre-sold.  And this is a shop that doesn't move a whole lot of product, he more of a gunsmith.

Anyone else seeing panic buying of Colt's, due to the financial news?

What dealer in Iowa?  I work at a Colt distributor and would love to sell him some Colt 1911's.

my shop moves a lot of product and he has more Colt 1911s than I can ever remember seeing...  I think 1911s in general have lost their luster...

Rumors of Colt shutting down probably.

Not here. I work in a local shop that does a lot of volume. We have more Colts than ever and no one is interested. Sold a Delta Elite yesterday but that's about it. We sell three times as many Wilson Combats than we sell Colts.

bought a new 6720 a few weeks ago for $819 delivered. Hadn't heard about the bankruptcy. Just wanted a good deal on a Colt AR15 to go with my 1911's that I've had for years..

I think he uses Bill Hicks for most of his stuff.  He doesn't seem to have any problem finding them.  It just seemed odd he had moved that many in that short of a time frame.

One reason you're seeing more Colt's is because last year Mark at Colt said that they had the new equipment up and running and that they were going to ramp up production significantly.

Really? What part of the country are you in? There's a tiny little GS near my home. Less than 100 guns total. And even he has five or six Colts on display most of the time.

Great marketing technique by Colt...

I just ordered a 1991, $599 after Mail In Rebate.

As much as I've wanted a Colt 1911, I couldn't shell out $800 for one.  Everyone was snatching up $5-$600 Rugers and Remingtons, glad Colt got the message.

I am pretty sure Colt's $250,000,000 debt is not a marketing technique.

I do find it interesting that a lot of the clearance places have been blowing out colts lately. Used to be you could hardly find pony guns for less than MSRP. Started with the AR's but now I keep seeing the 1911's getting blown out. The whole industry is nothing like it was even 10 years ago. The internet has changed the whole game.

over supply.....there is a finite number of gun buyers ....not a disposable item

ETA: pretty easy to get fat & happy when you have a .Gov contract....when that goes away its a whole new ballgame.....

That's a smoking good price.

Any of those left at that price?

Palmetto State Armory has been selling the Colt 6720 for $799 for months.  I just checked and they are currently out of stock.  They have gone out of stock a few times in the last few months, but they have come back in stock for the same $799 price each time.
