Local guy has this Colt for sale for $550. Says it looks brand new and has only had a couple boxes of ammo through it.

Good deal or no? I have no experieince with the Model 80's. Browsing gunbroker it appears the price is pretty good.

I paid about that for mine NIB. Of course that was over 11 years ago, so I would say that a lightly used example today is definitely worth $550. Given the chance I would pay that for a good condition used one.

I will add that out of all the 1911 pistols I have owned the Colt 1991 is the only one that has been extremely reliable. I have had a few failures, but all of them were with garbage magazines and with good quality mags I have had none. I have owned 4 other 1911 style pistols and all of them cost more than the colt and none of them were as reliable. The Colt was the first 1911 I bought and the only one I still own.

Not a bad deal. If you have the money and are shopping for a good bare bones 1911, that's a good one to get.

Well the handgun in question now resides with me. I talked him down to $475 and it was just to good a deal to pass up.

Damn skippy!!!! $475 is a heck of a deal IMO. Appears to be in great condition and you got it for less than a Glock.. or any other Polymers out there... Now shoot the crap out of it!!

That was a good deal that got better. They are excellent pistols that just got a bad rap from the series 70 and 80 die hard fans.

$475 is an excellent price on a VG pistol.

I had a couple of 1991A1's at different times. I thought they were better built than the Series 80 pistols being built at the same time, but with a much more "utilitarian" finish of course. They were dead reliable.
