THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT When I acquired it I immediately sent it to CCS for the tactical package. I added a new barrel and trigger to the package. Colt suprisingly added a new slide at no charge to the package as the old one was too far out of spec to fix. The slide is an exact match of the original with all the markings in the same place as the original. I guess this is part of the reason of the work taking so long. Thanks Colt! So, we now have a new barrel, new slide, Novak night sights, new trigger, combat hammer, Ed Brown safety and beavertail grip safety, polished ramp and throat, tuned trigger and new finish. I need to upgrade the original grips still on the pistol. Preliminary shooting results were very good. I had one malfunction but it was with some reloads. The other three types of factory ammo all cycled flawlessly. The trigger has a very short take up with a crisp let off. The reset is short and distinct. I plan on doing some more shooting in the next day or two and get a better feel of the gun. I had not shot it up to this point. Anyway, so far I am very happy with the work. I didn't expect it to take this long but I also didn't expect a new slide so I have no complaints.

Colt does nice work, I sent them a 2nd Gen SAA a few years ago for a standard refinish. It looked so good I couldn't bring myself to shoot it, so I ended up selling it. They did the work dirt cheap as well in my opinion. Nice looking pistol.

It looks like the sights were Millett and if so, the Millett 'dual crimp' front sight is probably more of the reason they replaced the slide. Cost less to replace it than to repair it.
That said, the Colt Custom Shop does some beautiful work. I posted pictures of my OACP after sending it in for the Model O package when I retired a couple of years back. I've got a stainless Gov't model that I'm sending them for some engraving once I get the money saved up. |

Lightly dehorned, parts smoothed and I wanted the Gold Cup serrations on the front strap
Stock thumb safety, ed brown speedbump grip safety
Novak front and rear, but front is tritium
And the gaping hole at the end. ![]() |

I have one out to Colt right now for a refinish job.
They take a LOOONG time to turn around, but I have always had good service and been satisfied with them. |

Mine has been gone for months now, but I'm told it is a month out now. So hopefully by the 4th of July maybe I'll have it back and can celebrate our independence day properly.

Very nice!!! I got the itch for an smaller frame 1911 and bought a OACP in Jan. I now want to send it in for Tac Pac as I did my S70. I love the work that CCS puts out. That was sweet in how they added the new slide at no charge. Brent and his team put out great work and I will for sure send in other pistols for the same treatment. Let us know hoe it shoots!!!

OP is that the royal blue blueing? I'm thinking about sending my commander in for some engraving, lowering, and flairing the ejection port.

Sweet!
But dammit, man! Why didn't you leave the original ring style hammer on it? I'd love to get my MilSpec blued. I know it's not the most durable finish, but it looks so sexy. a-bare |

I wonder if one can drive to Colt and see someone from the custom shop and leave a gun for work? It would be nice to know if they can rework what I have and what it would take etc. I have a blued 10mm Delta that I was going to do a lot of the work on myself, but the sight replacement and refinish is something I'd like them to do. This one has a tight slide to frame fit but thats because someone has peened the rails. Before I dump cash and time into it I'd like to get their opinion to see if its worth it.
For those of you that have used them, did you call them first and talk to anyone or just send the gun in with an order form? How does payment work? Do you give them a CC number and they charge it when the work is done or do they need a deposit up front etc? |
