These days, any time you find a good Python for under $1000 you better buy it RIGHT NOW, because while you're thinking it over it isn't going to be there when you decide and go back.
I can't remember the number of posts I've seen in the last year from people asking "is this Python a good deal"? only to re-post, that it was gone when they went to get it. |

Grabbed a 4-inch nickel plated python for $600 not too long ago.
Never fired, no box or papers, but definitely handled quite a bit. Picked it up from a collector who had passed away and the wife was liquidating the collection. I'll see if I can't get some pics at some point. |

Guys, sorry it took me a bit to get back here. I every time I logged on, something came up to distract me.
Thanks for the info, i have not followed wheel gun prices for a while. I am more interested in older C&R stuff or EBR's. The shop is holding if for me for a few days. I'll head back there and get it put on layaway.......gotta have something for the wife and kids to "buy" me for Father's day. |

Hey guys, I picked up my 4" blued python about a month ago for $800. Called Colt two days later and found out that it was made in 1965! That's ten years after they first introduced them. I was astonished by this as it was the smoothest operating precision machine that I've ever handled. My buddy and I had taken it to the range the day after I bought it and we'd pegged it for being a late 80's model at the oldest. That gun operates like the internals were made of KY and diamonds. Hands down, my new fav. Any advice on grips for that year though? I've no idea what the originals were, and I'd like to have a pair just to up the value. Thanks

Thanks Checkout the "Colt standard catalog" it's available in bookstores or download in your PC or Ipad through Nook app. worth the investment imho. (all you need to know about colt handguns/ revolvers from the past up to 2007 I believe) |

Thanks The grips would be the ones with the crescent at the top of the checkering for that vintage. expect to pay from 200- 250 for a decent set. |

There is no muzzle wear or wear on the high spots, not drag marks on the cylinder but it has been shot. Probably a lot of cast .38 special loads. A lot of lead build up. It would cost me $800 OTD....buy it or not? Get off your butt and buy. Good price for today. |

There is a guy a couple of threads down from yours that has a set of Python grips correct for your '65 vintage I believe. He was asking for a value and now has them listed for sale. Pythons are great revolvers and they do not decrease in value as long as you take care of it. $800 is an excellent price for one in good condition.

Unless it's been drug behind a pickup down a gravel road, take $800 to your shop NOW.
