THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Was a bit odd when I first got them because the packaging all read 40s&w promag for p99 so I was worried I got the wrong ones but I checked them against my PPQ mags and they matched...not a bad price if they work I figured...plus I ordered an 8 rounder for my PPS..46.99 dollars yikes...but I needed one.
Anyways...I loaded up the 20 rounders with 20 rounds...they aren't easy to load past 15 count...but was odd because theirs a huge spring space at 20 rounds..so I just kept loading till it locked up and wouldn't take anymore.... That's 28 rounds...nice but will it feed?
So Monday to the fun club with my 17yr old son and my Nephew to wring them out...and let my Nephew teach my son some clearing drills.
First mag 28 rounds hang up on 5th round..slap and rack..and it was good to go...other two mags ran flawlessly...funny thing was my Nephew was like " promags...damm I guess we will be doing clearing drills all day". Thing was my only hang up was my last.....we ran a lot of rounds threw those mags and they were being dropped into stone dust.....were getting pretty gritty to load near the end and we were only loading them up with about 10 to 15 rounds with dummy loads for drill practice.. But I did load them up to 28rnds about 3 times each they ran great.
I can't say this is a full endorsement of the promags, I will need more range time for that but so far I'm happy...
Pros: 28 rounds
Good fit and finish...not as good as the factory mags though
Price...like you can purchase 2 plus shipping for what you would pay for one factory 15 rounder with out shipping.
Length is nice...the 30rounder seems too long, but I can get 28 in a 20...how many can realy fit in a 30?
This might just be me getting use to the PPQ but I had faster follow up shots with these mags.
Cons: Promag's history
Very hard to load past a point.
They rattle unless you load 28
Base plate has a thin gap near the end that fine dirt can get in. No problems because of this so far..but I did notice it.
...I will be getting a maglula (sp) for loading...I fried the Walther mag loader loading the promags...so I guess the actual cost is up from my original purchase price...but still better then factory stealership pricing.
I'll update this post as long as its not archived on how they run..but so far each mag has had about 120 to 140 rounds threw them all fmj.
I dry ran one mag with hollow points with out any snags..I just didn't want to waste my carry ammunition that day..next time I'll run hollow points threw to test a diferent parameter

Are you using 9mm or 40S&W? If you're loading 9mm into a 40 mag, thats why you get more rounds than the specified capacity.

The mouth opening is exactly like my factory mags...so I'm pretty positive that I have the 20 round 9mm promags. 40sw are a fair bit larger...but if they are 40sw....they run fine with 9mm...and this would explain the round count diferance. I have a few 357sig casings and they do load and unload fine...I'm just not sure if they would in a pistol chambered for them...if the mouth is too small it would cause the slide to skip right over and not pick up the round...but this is all conjecture on my part. I'll send an email to midway and see if they can put some sence to this puzzle. But as it stands right now...what ever mags I have they work..real nice so far!!! |

So I have 6 total now...all load up with 28 rounds..some rattle some don't.....and they all feed..SO FAR.
I have about 900ish rounds total dispersed between 6 mags.....only one FTFeed ..i used PMC brass cased, and blaser shit aluminum case crap, and about 200 rounds of made in Spain cheap Hollow points.(don't remember the company..sorry). All good so far...my nephew suggest I run one till it starts to fail...and see how many reloads it will take to see the failure point. Not sure I can afford to shoot that much ammo...but it will be fun to try. Thank god for the maglula.
YMMV. But so far, for the price I can advise its a good purchase. |
