There's a reason that AA weapons lights aren't common; you don't have enough energy to drive the LED hard enough to generate much light.  I'm not sure what the advantage of AA llights over CR123 lights is other than battery availability.  For a dedicated weapon light, you can carry spares (10 year shelf life) or use rechargeables.

Standard AA's are alkaline and do poorly in cold weather. CR123's are lithium and are much better in the cold. I know you can get Lithium AA's,but they cost more and are not as easy to find...
