I bought a Dan Wesson 1911 (5" Railed, ambi safety).

I'm a southpaw.  I prefer IWB even for full sized guns.

It's the nicest pistol I'll ever own, because I won't make the jump to custom like Wilson, etc.

Anyway, I've had good luck with Alien and Crossbreed.

I'm willing to make an investment in a "good" holster if it's worthwhile.

What are your recommendations?

You have to have Sam Andrews build you one!  I can't speak high enough of him and the work he does.  If you can afford the time, watch the video below so you can see the details he goes to when making your new holster.  He's a true craftsman.

I just bought my father-in-law a left handed IWB MacDaniel II for a 1911 less than a year ago.  He loves it.

The holsters that man makes are amazing pieces of art!  If I had the money, I would definitely buy one!

I had him make a cape buffalo belt and cape buffalo McDaniel II for my Shield. It cost more than the gun, but I really like both of them.

My dad is a lefty also and like IWB as well.

He primarily wears Mitch Rosen or Milt Sparks holster.

I have some leather from him and the work is great, all horsehide.

Also he will make custom one off stuff.

If you don't mind the wait, the nicest leather I've ever owned was HBE. The owner is awesome as well, he called me a few times and worked with me on my rather unusual request (AIWB with tuckable offset clip for a Makarov). The finished product is great.

I'll pile on with the others recommending the VMII for IWB.

I would like to say that for a great, concealed, and very comfortable OWB, I love the Alessi CQC-S. Ritchie Leather also makes a practically identical version of this called the CQ-QR.
