I have been shooting since 1955 and just bought my first 1911. Seems like leather is the way to go.. Looked at all of the factory made holsters and none of them met my needs.  I have bony hip bones and 3 o'clock is an uncomfortable position IWB. Looked at custom leather holsters and ordered  a Tucker Gunleather HF1 OWB belt holster and it looks like it  may be comfortable at  3 o'clock with a 1911.

Show me your custom holsters and explain how you chose the maker and style.

cant show you but I used a simple IWB holster made of leather from Milt Sparks. It was a cheaper one called theSS
I carry at 3:00 also .

I use kydex now based on the old school fold over IWB for P30S/TLR-1  and P229

Something that wraps around your body will be the most comfortable.  Wider with the loops spaced out away from the pistol a little bit.

I carry AIWB. I chose JRC Leather because his work looks great, horsehide and also leather AIWB has only so many options. Jim is a great guy to deal with as well

Good choice my friend !!!!! While I'm not a 1911 guy or a leather guy. This type of carry is excellent for those of us with the body type to carry this way.

Would almost be perfect for me except for the ride height. I like my  3:00 to Appendix IWB  to have a low ride just above the belt line..

Leather is the only way to go.

I chose Big Ugly Leather Works because he was new in the business and wanted to see what his work was like.

Couldn't be more pleased, and have ordered multiple things since.

See avatar for pic, but can post a larger one if desired.

It is a "Mk III Do All" model, and has been a part of my EDC for almost a year.

It's a convertible IWB/OWB and is the most comfortable holster I've used, worn either way.
