THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I have been shooting matches where we do not draw from a holster. In the near future I may be shooting some matches that do require drawing and firing from a holster.
I will be shooting a 1911 centerfire and a Ruger MkII in rimfire. I have both with iron sights and both with reddot optics. I would like a holster that would do both if that's possible.

I have a Galco paddle holster for a 1911 but it isn't what I think I need for competition.
I found this Blade Tech holster for a 1911. Does anyone have any experience with it? Any problems with it? Does it retain the pistol securely while moving?

Does anyone have a holster recommendation for a Ruger MkII? I found this Triple K at Cabelas that would work for hunting, etc. but I don't think it would be good for comps. I could use it if necessary. It would be better than nothing.

I would also need mag holders for both the MkII and 1911.

edited to add: I used to carry a 1911 in the original Bianchi auto-draw holster back in the '80s. I am tempted to find one used somewhere. Are the new comp holsters a lot better?

Thanks,
Jim

I'm not positive but I think that blade tech may not be allowed in idpa? I think different types of matches require diff holsters. I just shot my 2 nd idpa match and used a full leather pancake that I made. I think idpa has to be the type of holster that you could carry or conceal carry on a daily basis.

My Galco paddle holster would work for that. I may be shooting in a steel challenge type match soon. I need a holster for that.

I found this for the MkII.

I read the rules on the steel matches I am looking to shoot. The holster requirement is that the holster must be on or forward of the hip and the muzzle, when holstered, must be pointed where a bullet impact would be within 2 feet. I can't tell from just a stock pic, but the Blade Tech holster looks like it might be pointed too far forward.

FWIW I found an auction on Ebay for an original Bianchi Auto-Draw holster. Waaay back in the '80s when I was a cop I carried a government model 1911 in that holster, so I am familiar with it.
I remember it being very good on weapon retention and very quick to draw to shoot. I wonder if it would be competitive enough to use.

I had a Bianchi Auto-Draw holster for a short time, didn't like it myself. Preferred the Safariland 070.

Take a look at the Safariland 6377 ALS holster. Its very fast and secure.
