I've been searching for a holster that can fit my Glock 21 along with an X300 light to no avail... this thread has me thinking that making a holster out of leather is:

1) possible for a person handy with tools
2) an interesting project

Thanks to the fellow who posted his instructions on a website above, that was quite informative.

Question: Where do I go to find the tools and leather? What kind of shop would I look for locally?

Anyone made a leather holster for a gun with a light like this? I assume the molding would have to be rather specific to allow a decent retention & draw?

Look up Tandy Leather Factory and search for a store near you. They have everything you need to get started making leather holsters. Once you find out if its for you, you can upgrade the tools and materials you use. If there isn't a leather factory close, you can shop them on line.

Light bearing holsters from leather are difficult to make and have work. Most leather holsters retain the gun by molding themselfs close to the guns contures and the light confounds that issue, as it has to be loose enough for the light to draw smoothly, while being tight enough to retain the pistol.

Good luck on your adventure. Leather working is a fun and rewarding hobby.

I finished these the other day.

This one is for a full size 1911.

Another one, left handed for a Kimber Ultra Carry II.

I made this for the new M&P Shield.

1911 Drop leg

This was my first Hybrid that I made. I even used Crossbreeds clips.

Since then, I've made 3 more that look just like it for S&W M&P 9c's and SIG P250

I just finished a prototype BN. Going to make a couple minor stitch pattern adjustments but I'm liking it

Usually I prefer flat cake style, molded front flat back. But I was inspired by a friend to try a Roy baker style pancake. Here is the first attempt. Not perfect but didn't turn out to bad for first try at this style. If I ever do another one at least I know what I'm in for.

Plus one for using zombie green back pieces.

I'm going to make a kydex/leather hybrid holster, what fasteners should I use to attach the two? I see chicago screws and some type of rivet or eyelet. I'm concerned about the chicago screws coming loose, but I'm not sure what kind of rivet/eyelet to use.

i get mine from knifekits.com. they tell you what size eyelet to use for what thickness kydex you use. use locktite on the chicgo screws and they will never back out. i have been wearing mine for a year now and never had any back out
