After testing the Speer G2 Gold Dot the next logical step was to try the standard Gold Dot and see if there was any real difference in performance.

Here is a link to the G2 Gold Dot test if you haven’t seen it.

The two bullets in bare gel both had a penetration of 15 inches with a velocity of 988 and 969fps. Expansion was also .57 inches each.

In heavy clothing one bullet penetrated 17.5 inches, expanded to .55 and had a velocity of 983fps. The other one went to 18.5 inches, expanded to .54 inches with a velocity of 972fps.

When I get a chance I will try some out of my three inch Kahr and see if it fares better than the G2.

So I'm confused, which one of the bullets is the G2 and which one is standard Gold Dot?  Or are they both G2?

I've carried that very ammo in a Glock 17, 19, and Sig P/226. Good stuff, for sure.

We use that in our Beretta 92s and the wife also runs it in her Nano.

So I finally had a chance to shoot this load through my Kahr MK9 with a three inch barrel. Two rounds fired in bare gel. The first round had a velocity of 893fps penetrated 16 inches and expanded to .57 inches. Round number two also penetrated to 16 inches with a velocity of 876fps and expanded to .56 inches.

All six rounds tested from left to right. First two, bare gel from a Glock 19. Second two, heavy clothing from a Glock 19. And the last two from the Kahr MK9 into bare gel.

Impressive performance... OP, what was the test gun/length of barrel in this test of the standard Gold Dot 147gr 9mil??? I carry this exact load in a CZ "P-01" that has a 3.75" barrel for street carry; which is about the normal barrel lenght for a "carry pieces" these days. I carry Buffalo Bore 147+P Hard Cast loads for our woods carry loads as of late.

So picked up  couple of boxes at my local gun range.
They are selling them for $20.00 for fifty.
Just because of the price and bullet wt.
147 Gold-Dot JHP. Yes! I do like a heave bullet in my nine!
It says Law Enforcement on the box.
Call Speer said it was made this time last year.
So I want back and got 10 more boxes!
The guy behind the counter at the gun shop said they tend
to work better in full size 9mm! Told him that works for me!
Anyone know if these are bonded???

The Gold Dots in short barrel guns perform great except the 124 standard pressure and the G2. The G2 needs a long barrel service gun to expand, it performed horrible in a 3inch. 9mm Ammo Quest by Shooting the bull 410, 6 inch performed very good. @edknn

Shoting the bull did test 147gr Gold Dots in the 3in barrel and at least in his test two out of 5 failed to expand well through denim. If you had a 3.5in I have no idea if that issue would go away though. Have you seen better results in other tests, or were they using a +P load?
