I've heard of folks using the 115 XTP in .380 so there should be some load data out there somewhere. IIRC, 115gn JHP's work better than FMJ's due to a combo of seating depth and the ogive location on FMJ's.

Using 115's in a .380 sounds like using 147's in 9mm. I'd do the plunk test in your pistol before loading a bunch of them.

You might try posting this in the reloading section as I'm sure someone there knows much more than I do.

There's already a thread in there that I'm talking about this.

I have found pretty decent load data for it, and I'm waiting on the bullets to arrive.

I'm just surprised that there's not really any factory rounds available.

OK, sorry.  Yeah with the popularity of .380's in the past few years I can see your point. Maybe because it isn't a traditional weight for a .380 round, or with the ammo demand in recent years the 115gn components were slated for 9mm production. IDK.

You'll never make a .380 a 9mm but you can try. The 90gr. XTP is the best you're going to get until someone designs a better 90gr. JHP. A 115gr. JHP is going to do the same thing as a 90gr. FMJ, put a .355" hole in something.

Well, you can kinda make a 380 into a 9mm. Many years ago, before the great selection of sub-compact 9mm's arrived on the scene I looked into this. I wanted 9mm in steel framed Colt Government 380.

The limitation on the cartridge is the web of the 380 case. It is not designed to contain 9mm energy.

As luck would have it, the 380 shares the head size of the 5.56/223 case. They use the same shell holder.

Take a 5.56 case, cut it to the correct length for a 380. You will also need to inside ream the case to reduce the wall thickness so that you can seat the bullet.

You will need to experiment with recoil springs and powder burn rates until you get a combination that will give you the right cycle time for the heavier load.

With 115, you will likely have problems with OAL and getting enough velocity to get it to expand.

I would love to see a 105-110gr GoldDot or similar bullet going around 850-900.

I doubt the XTP will expand at 945 but maybe a different bullet such as the Gold Dot 115 or Sierra. 945fps is getting pretty good for a 115 out of a 380!!
