A few weeks ago I bought a box of Buffalo Bore 10mm 180 gr JHC 1350 FPS / ME 728 for a G20 that I should be getting in a week or two. At what velocity, weight, or muzzle energy would you consider a round to be " hot " or loaded to the specification that it originally was intended?

I don't have any plans to OWB carry it or use it for home defense but would like to keep some good SD ammo on hand just in case. Would the Buffalo Bore that I mentioned above work or is the better ammo for SD in 10mm, what would you suggest?

Thanks in advance for the help.

The Buffalo Bore or similar Underwood loads.

"Hot" is anything with more energy than 40 S&W (475-ish ft-lbs), realistically 700 ft-lbs like the BB.

I use the BB 180 HP load as my carry ammo, when not in the woods.  When I am in the woods, no matter what I am doing, I switch to BB 220 Hard cast ammo. So far I have been happy with the way the BB shoots.
