Was that the only unprimed round in the box?

What manufacturer?

Happens even to the big ammo makers.

Somewhere in my collection of oddities, I still have a circa-1985 Remington 158 soft point with a backward primer.

Happens once about every 300 rounds on my Dillon 650.

A quick visual scan would have caught this defect. Always visually inspect you ammo.

True, but it's range ammo and it made for a good malfunction drill.

I've bought Remington ammo that had a backward primer in it. It happens.

Your firing pin is not long enough.

Bradd, I suspect that you "flinched" in the priming step of reloading that round. I've had the same thing happen to me and I always considered it to be operator error.
I have a miniature Husky that is colored and marked just like yours is in the avatar. Her name is Sue and she is 2 years old and weighs 25 pounds.

I had a round of Federal LE .45 ACP ammo like that a few years ago, so even the big boys let one slip now and then. I caught it as soon as I slid the tray out of the box. I was surprised it got past the LE QA process, but  shit happens I guess.

Thanks for posting that OP. I had two rounds of Wolf .223 ammo ( out of 1000) that were primed like that about 8 years ago and a bunch of Wolf cheerleaders jumped my ass on here for suggesting Wolf could possibly prime a cartridge backwards. Basically said I was lying. As said, any company can do that. Check closely anything meant for other than the range.
