Anyone lock up ALL their ammo?  If so, why?

To prevent theft.
To help contain detonation incase of Fire
To not be seen by visitors

No. Most, yes; but not genuinely "all". If it were "all", there'd be no loaded firearms in the equation.

Kind of like money - sure, you want most of your money secured somewhere; but I also want some in my wallet where it's handy & useful.

That said, there's probably some state or city where it's legally mandated that all ammunition be locked up...

I have all mine secured (as in locked away and hidden from kids and others who do not need to know) but I don't keep it in any sort of "safe".

I don't have room for it in the safes.  I have considered a job box bolted to the floor to store most of it.

Ideally, you really do not want to "contain" a detonation. However, loaded ammunition (NOT in a gun) really doesn't present much of a threat during a fire. This has been proved in multiple experiments. Propane tanks/lines, gasoline cans and such are bigger concerns for fire fighters.

I do keep loaded mags around though in packs that I can just grab in a hurry.

I lock it all up simply because the room where I keep my firearms, ammunition, reloading equipment and supplies has a lock on the door.  Keeps the kiddies out.  A thief would simply kick the door down.

This I have my gun room behind a key lock door.  The ammo is out but the firearms are locked in the safe.

Ive read anti gun group editorials that demand guns and ammo are locked up, I was curious if anyone did and what their reasons were.  In this case specifically ammo.  I read a story of a British man facing prison for not locking up his ammo and it struck me as ridiculous, but possibly not so distant in NY states future.

I let my ammo run free and lock up all the anti gunners.

It's a lot safer that way.

But that's just the way I am.

I bought thousands of rounds in 5.56 years ago and today its doubled in price. Also all the other premium ammo for all other calibers is stored in the safe with the weapons. Practice ammo is not stored with the other ammo.
