UPDATE: now with body armor test, thanks to StevenH. There was some debate in the GD thread as to whether the crazy fast velocity of this load was enough to get through body armor. StevenH stepped up and contributed a IIA panel to test.

Magsafe 45 gr fragmenting "SWAT" fired from G22 with 4" Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel through four layers of denim into calibrated 10% gelatin. This load consists of a copper jacket filled with small lead shot and capped with some sort of epoxy. Very similar to Glasers.

BB: 603.6 fps, 3.1"

Impact velocity: 2,291 fps
Penetration: 9.3"
Retained weight: N/A
Expansion: N/A

One pellet measured 0.139" and weighed
3.5 gr.

The jacket measured 0.705" x 0.487", stopped at 7.2", and weighed 24.8 gr.

Same ammunition tested from the same firearm.

9mm Magsafe 45 gr SWAT fired from G22 with Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel into Gall's Lite level IIA vest backed by modeling clay. While there was substantial back face deformation, the bullet did not penetrate the vest. The maximum allowable back face deformation set by the NIJ is 44mm. I measured approximately 2", which converts to about 51mm. It seems that although the bullet was "stopped" by the vest, the vest would not have been rated for this load. I was also surprised to find that the projectile stayed mostly intact.

it is interesting though, how many layers did it go through?
IIRC painless did a test on clay with various handguns and pistols and had 2-4 layers penetrated but larger deformations as bullets got bigger(BTW shotgun slug wouldnt go through, it would just crush the chest).

The layers are very thick and hard to peel apart, but it looks like the vest has nine layers and the bullet made it through four.
