I'd like to invest some money into ammo.  My go-to handgun is a Glock Model 22 40S&W.

Basically what I am looking for is a good deal on 2-3,000 rounds of hollow points that are good for self defense.

I see a wide range in price so I was wondering if anyone knew of any sales or had a specific vendor or model of ammunition in mind?

Thanks for the help, sorry for being such a newb.

bulkammo.com usually has good prices around 50 cents a round which is ok for JHP

academy started carrying 50 round HP remmington UMC boxes but prices are going to  be higher

.40 ammo is so plentiful.  SG is an awesome vendor as many on this site will attest.  I have spent tons on money there, always super fast shipping.

If I were you I'd get some of that 165 grain ranger and fast.  There's not much left and that's a smokin' price

I purchase quite a bit from them; good CS and fast shipping.

Target Sports doesn't charge shipping on bulk orders; 2-3k would certainly qualify.

I prefer the lighter bullets, but HST is my go to .40 ammo:  180gr HST.

Thanks a lot!  I'm just curious what the difference is between the 2 different WInchester Rangers that you posted?

Nothing wrong with the Winchester, but if it were me, I would really go with the 180 grain HST at .49 per round.  That is absolutely one of the top performers out there, and its price makes it an unbeatable value.  I have shot a lot, and I mean a whole lot of this govt. contract ammo; it is top quality and never failed to go bang for me.

I've never shot 180gr before, always 165.  Any significant difference?

ETA:  Hell, it's actually 46 cents per round.  Maybe the price changed since he posted it.  Even better deal

Well, depending on who you talk to, the general consensus is that the heavier weights penetrate deeper.  I also follow this line of thought.  180 grain also recoils less, but I don't know exactly how much.  I've shot both 155 grain and 180 grain out of the same pistol,  the 155 grain felt a little snappier but I couldn't give you a quantitative measure of how much, as if "snappy" were a technical term .  I do believe the 180 HST is the best out of the bunch available performance wise, and the fact that it's also the cheapest is a huge bonus.  I wouldn't lose any sleep if all I had were 165 grn rounds, but given the choice and the circumstances, I'd always pick the 180s.

SGAmmo all the way.
Get the Government over run ammo in the Federal HST 180 grain they have.
And then you know you have the best.

The HST are nice but the Gold Dots have the best consistent terminal performance and that comes from my personal experience in forensic death investigations and a best friend who is a firearms analyst in a crime lab.

The HST or Ranger will do fine also its just a matter of what your gun shoots best and what you like personally for your budget.

I also prefer bonded bullets.

What's your favorite source for ammo? Hint: Getting it free at work does not count, an sales source.

I've been buying this stuff for years.  It used to come in a basic white box.  Great ammo.
