Dr Roberts independently tests ammo for agencies and organizations at their request. He will likely be testing the Hornady stuff soon, if he hasn't already. We will just have to wait. The "list" cannot be updated every day with ever new round that comes down the pipe. It is likely a good round but I will wait until it is evaluated independantly before I jump on-board.

There are "people at the shooting range", and there's real data.

Let me say that Hornady, in general, makes very good ammo. The FTX and Critical Defense are probably OK, but I have seen too little data and DocGKR hasn't done any comprehensive testing yet. What I have noticed, however, is the relatively POOR expansion of these rounds. When you compare them to known good performers like the HST, Ranger, and Gold Dot, the Hornady pales in comparison.

For me, there's no point in going to the Hornady unless I just couldn't find anything in the recommended list and I needed ammo right now.

I just found the HST boxes for $24 a box from Tactical Defense Solutions. At first their website seem a little sketchy to me, but I ordered 6 boxes and about 5 days later they were on my doorstep. No tracking email which made me a little more suspect, but the price per box was good for me and the shipping was less than I get quoted from other websites.

I would give them 1.5 thumbs up ...

Kinda related topic...

What about higher velocity bullets? Like the +P or a higher velocity bullet in general?

Are they "better" for self defense than a lesser velocity bullet?

For instance .40 Federal 180 HST vs 168 HST? One is the bigger but produces less velocity and energy the other is higher velocity and higher energy level?
