I have a Colt .380 Government model that is pretty much a safe queen. Decided to take it to the range and put some rounds through it. Figured I would clean and lube it first as it hadn't been fired in quite some time. I noticed that when I aligned the slide to remove the slide stop, the slide stop lever just fell out with little to no effort. I am assuming I need to replace the slide stop spring. Ordered one from Brownells. Is there anything more to replacing the spring other than simply pulling the old one out and pushing the new one in? Does this seem to be the fix for a loose slide stop lever. Sorry but my gunsmithing is limited to learn as you go. Thanks

Have you cleaned the slide stop spring and its mounting?

Old oil has this nasty habit of hardening as the more volatile components evaporate away.
