Sounds like the sight is a bit loose? Tap it all the way out, and use a sharp center punch to raise a small burr on the base of the sight. That should do, a better fix would be drill/tap the rear sight for a set screw.

Other way around, and a rear sight driver tool will give him the needed small adjustements, instead of having to hit the sight so hard that by the time it moves, it launching in large steps instead. |
