Gotcha

I still use a table lamp and printer paper/white sheet. I have a pvc light/soft box finishing tomorrow, mrs tinythief is going to sew white sheets for me. Sometimes I use a canon, others a iPhone/iPad

Hang 'em from fishing string in front of something cool, light it from where it seems like it's lit from. Isolate the subject by adjusting your camera's distance from subject, distance from background, ambient light, light location and light power to get the look you want in camera. Remove fishing string in PS. Have a beer.

The two photos on the left and the bottom right use 2x lights. A powerful diffused light coming from above, and a lower power bare light coming in from below and behind(bottom right seems to have its light coming from above and behind the subject, perhaps a poor job of aiming/directing the light where I wanted it). Look where the light falls. The bodyguard on the top right uses 1x light, from above again, diffused again. Occasionally I'll bring a reflector(anything large and white) in very close to the subject(the guns never complain), making for nice front fill on our moody black guns.

Is this a hobby or do you do this for a living?

Excellent block of instruction by the way, much appreciated.

Since we are talking about it.
What shutter speed are you running, short exposure or long? I tried some longer the other day and I think it got very grainy. So I'm unsure if I didn't have enough light or to long of an exposure.

On a side note they looked better before I uploaded them to Flickr. I had the backround a deeper black but when I view them on Flickr it is not as dark and it looks blurry. I have never had this issue before with flickr.

Shutter speed is often a case-by-case basis, as are the other settings used(aperture, ISO). In studio, where I have powerful flashbulbs *freezing* the subject and spilling a liiittle bit of light on the backdrop, I can shoot at a low ISO, and a relatively high shutter speed. If I weren't using strobes to light things, well my settings would be quite a bit different(longer shutter to bring in ambient light, etc).

That said, here ya go:

Wife gave the OK to pick up a M&P 45 tonight for my Christmas gift.  I'll be driving to Colorado for work and will be gone on Christmas day, so she let me get it today.  Headed to the range tomorrow to test it out before leaving town.  My wife has a Shield, but this is my first M&P gun.  I've always been a Glock guy, but the Glock 45's are thick and the S&W grip has a better feel to me.

Already looking at an Apex trigger mod.  We'll see how it shoots tomorrow

Sorry for the crappy phone pic, but it's all I got

Ran about 600 rounds through it last Thursday.  Really like it so far.  It is great on the speed plates and poppers.  Definitely need to remember the ports when doing close in drills from the tuck
