Just pull back the slide to release.

If its like the first gen, there can be a little extra metal on the release holding things up. Youtube it

I'm of the opinion that device is a slide lock not release.
I slingshot all my autos so it wouldn't be an issue to me. |

How many rounds have you put through it? Mine was a PITA until I put about 250 rounds through it
