I found a mint 36 no dash with box and all papers for 349 . I took it home also a 629 dash 5 or 6 3inch with box , wood finger grips 639 , should I get it also t looked like a 686 kind of ?????????????

If it's a 629 with a 6 in barrel with a full underlug, it's a 629 classic most likely. Worth more than they are asking by about $150 if it's in good condition.

The 629 is a 3 inch barrel with the box , no lock , maybe a dash 5 or 6 for 639.00 should I go back . the 36 looks unfired and has old blue box and all papers from that time .

It's not a -6 if it doesn't have a lock.

I'd probably have bought it, but I'd offer $600 OTD and see what happened.......then throw some x-frame grips on it (the hogue ones, can only get them off of S&W's website).....they will make it much more comfortable to shoot.

I think a 629 with a 3" barrel is a steal at that price……I would buy that in a heartbeat! I have seen them going upwards of $1000.00+……

That looks just like the gun , mint with box I think it is a tad later no lock logo in gold and had mountain back packer or something on the other side of barrel . I think any 3 in no lock 629 is a 1000 gun with the box . not long ago I went in and found my old 629 no dash 4 in that I got new back in the 80s I got it back for 600 bucks

S&W made a couple of variations of the 629 with a 3" barrel. Some had fluted cylinders and some were unfluted. Some had a full lug like mine and some did not. They were called Backpackers, Mountain Packers or Magnum Packers, depending on the combination of cylinder and barrel profiles. Mine is a 629-2 and does not have any "Packer" designation on the barrel. It was given to me by a buddy of mine many years ago and it came with the Pachmayr grips. I did not get a box or any other paperwork with it.

Like I said, no matter what exact model you are looking at, S&W did not make very many of the 3" 629's, so for the price they are asking, I would snap that up in a heartbeat!

The 36 no dash is blued finish and not a mark on it grips are numbered to the gun and medallions have the black back plates , I did put a set of Uncle Mikes boot grips that I had for awhile on and dug out my old but like new Safari-land and black Bianchi belt holster . I dont know if I can bring myself to CCW this thing ,have Shields and Glocks for that .

He still had the 3 in 629 dash 5 I looked and it said Mountain Backpacker on it and fluted cyl . 670 plus tax . I took home a used Smith Governor foe 600 I ride ATV and have a lot of grass to cut I will take it with me for that .

The Mountain Backpacker is a steal at that price. Would bring $900-1200 on GB.
