L Detachment, SAS - North Africa 1942
I'm trying to identify the revolver shown in these photos. I believe it's a .45 based on the size of the bore. Is it a Model 10 or variant? Is it even a S&W? I appreciate your help in advance.

Could also be one of the s&W's made in 455 webley

The top photo is S&W 1917 45 revolver. The second photo looks to be another S&W 1917 revolver. The S&W had a half moon front sight where the colt had a different profile and the difference is easy to distinguish.

Some 455's did ( the so called triple
Locks) but the majority did not Definitely s&w definitely not the common 38/200 ( looks too big like you said) so either a 45 auto or 455 |

Perhaps the best clue to what it is is in the first picture - while blurred the guy next to the revolver holder is cleaning a Thompson- so the likelihood it is a 1917 in 45 auto is much more likely
