ETA: I don't rally think that the Brake Clean will damage the lower, but it will probably fade it to a dull whitish color. |

Don't trust plastic safe contact cleaner either.

Break free powder blast.
Brake kleen Green can is more dangerous to plastic than red. Put on rag, and wipe gentle. Don't spray on frame |

Ya brake clean is pretty potent stuff, I would stick with good old fashioned gun cleaners and a brush.

I guess that you are "degreasing"if you're using Brake Clean. On my USP after cleaning the heavy powder residue, I've just wash it in Dawn dish soap and very hot water. After rinsing, againin veryhot water, I blow the water out with compressed air place it someplace warm until dry and lube it.

I use brake clean to remove head gaskets that have been baked on for 35 years. Stuff is potent and likely will damage polymer.
