Looked at 617's (10 shot .22LR revolver), when they came out.

Saw one a few days back, renewed my interest, then I saw the prices.

Those are not cheap, still want one.

What is a good price on a used one?

The K frame 22's have always been  uncommon and very expensive.

Used? Good luck.  I paid 727.00 out the door for my new one a couple months ago and was pleased with that.

What is a good price for used, or what is the price you are going to pay for used?

Unfortunately, it seems that revolver prices have really risen in recent years.

Locally I haven't seen one under 600 used in a long time.

MiniZ,

I have not seen any under 600 either, some in the fairly used 90-95% they wanted 700+

I will have to buy new one day at those prices

I have always wanted an 18 S&W Combat Masterpiece 22 LR and never saw one to buy.  I used to see model 17's but never 18's.  A friend had an 18-3 and a 17 which I got to shoot.  One day I was in a gun shop in Kentucky and they had a model 18 no dash in 85% condition with box and original diamond grips.  They had it marked at $425.  I asked the owner if that was the correct price and he said that was an accurate price according to blue book.  I couldn't get my money out fast enough, the revolver had  holster wear but had not been shot much.  I intend on this revolver being a family heirloom but I still enjoy shooting it and just owning it.  I bought a Taurus Model 94 thinking I'd never find or be able to afford a Model 18.  I guess I just lucked out and my serial number indicates my model 18 was made in about 1955.

If you ever see a 17, 18 or 617 you have to jump if the prices are decent because they won't stay on the shelves long.  The gun shop put the model 18 on the shelf the previous afternoon and I bought it around 10 AM.

Bought this one a few years ago NIB, was originally bought for the Detroit PD for the females to qualify on but that got grieved and it was never used. Was then sold by MPS [Mich Police Supply] and I bought it later. I had been looking for several years to find a decent one to go with my 4 and 5 screw pre and model 17's. They are well worth looking for.

Did they ever make  one in a factory matte or parkerized finish?

Not that I'm aware of. The 617 is obviously a stainless steel pistol & the models 17, 18 & 43 are all blued steel pistols.

The blued models I see locally are all in the $700+ range. Glad I bought mine when I did. I've currently got models 617-2 (alloy cyl, 6" bbl, 10 shot), 64 (4" bbl), 17-4 (8-3/8" bbl), 17-6 (6" bbl) & 18-4 (4" bbl). I also have a model 41 to top it off.

This. I paid about the same for mine, and I was just happy to find one.

I'd love to see the stats on how many .22 revolvers S&W produces each year. The demand for them definitely exceeds the supply around here.

Try to find really nice used Colt .22 revolvers............it makes lookinf for S&W's a walk in the park and makes paying for a nice S&W .22 seem like a sound financial decision.

Makes me more and more happy that I stole this when I did.

Just food for thought:
Ruger will be releasing a 22lr GP100
10 shot soon.
I think street price will be around $550.
With Wolff springs and a trigger job it may be a winner.
Hopefully DS-10 Makes speed loaders for it.
I shoot a 617 in local steel matches and really enjoy it.

Really? That sounds interesting.

I have a 617 and 18 already though.

The 22lr Ruger SP101 (8 shot) is just as scarce as the 22lr Smiths around here. I've read good things about them, and it seems most people in the market for a 22 wheelgun find the whole "not a Taurus" thing very attractive. I agree that I'd rather have a S&W, but hopefully Ruger cranks out enough of the GP100s to satisfy demand.

I grabbed my 617 up the nanosecond I saw it at the gun shop.

She's a heavy bitch, and I'm not too stoked about the Hillary Hole, but laser accurate.

First gun I go to when taking new/female shooters out.
