This is a brand new M&P 9mm, purchased from my local dealer a couple weeks ago.  Last Friday I ran 100 rds of factory ammo through it, no issues.  During cleaning I noticed this small crack inside the mag well where the backstrap and takedown tool fit into the frame.  Is this normal?  Doesn't seem like it will hurt anything considering the location of the crack, but it is a bit concerning on a new gun.  If you have an M&P can you take a look and see if yours looks like this?  This is the best pic I could get of it.

Thanks for the quick reply and pic.  Not seeing a crack in yours despite the fact that it has seen a good bit of use.  I just sent an email and pic to S&W, guess we'll see what they say.

No crack on mine either.

Is that "crack" at the gate, where the polymer is injected into the mold at high pressure?

If the "crack" is not at an important part of the frame, then I'd just keep an eye on it.
Obviously, if the "crack" grows, then call S&W.

If you want some peace of mind, then send the picture to S&W.
I'd like to know what they say, so keep us posted.

Heard back from S&W, they are going to send me a label so I can send it in.

Good call OP.  FWIW  I checked my M&P .45, approximately 1300 rounds trouble free, no mark/crack.  Keep us posted on what S&W does with your pistol.

Got a call from S&W today.  They said they are going to replace my pistol.  Will update when it arrives.

No cracks on my 9mm but it has light use.

About the only way I can see that part of the frame getting any stress or even brass deposits is inserting the magazine at an angle.

I will be making a point to try to insert it straight in from now on.

I don't think the discoloration is from brass.  A gentleman on another forum who is very well versed in injection molding said it looked like a burn from an improper knit in the plastic.  I guess air gets trapped in the mold and combusts  causing a burn.

Still waiting for my new pistol.  I guess it is out of stock.

I think S&W finally tracked down a replacement pistol for me.  Hoping to have it maybe by the end of the week.
