Greetings from California! I am picking up my new M&P9 on Tuesday . I rented this gun a while back and fell in love with it. Been trying to surf the web for information on what to do and what not to do. Of course I always see the APEX trigger upgrades, but is there anything else I should know? What ammo shouldn't I run in it? How often do guys clean yours? Any aftermarket sights that you like? I also see a lot of stippling jobs that look pretty cool. Throw anything you can at me to help me out.

Hello, how is it behind enemy lines? Glad to have you here. Yes, APEX makes awesome components for the M&P. I prefer 10-8 Performance sights, but there are lots of good options out there. And if you want to stipple your frame, all you need is a $20 soldering iron and practice on some extra plastic (mags, rail panels, etc.)

Haha! Thanks for having me. This website is awesome. As for things over here, we got this SB 249 crap if you haven't heard.

I liked the feel of the grip a lot. I rented one when I took my Glock to the range, and I instantly wanted to switch. The APEX parts seem very cool and worth the money. I'll keep the gun stock for a good while. I don't want to rush anything. I need to pick up some 10rd magazines too. I hear and see they are very hard to come by.

Congrats! I have over 4000 rounds through mine, it will eat anything. Try 44mag.com for mags. And I put on 10-8 Performance sights, black serrated rear and red fiber optic front. Huge improvement for me. I haven't done any trigger work because I don't think it is necessary. As for cleaning, its almost optional for this gun. I've run it dirty several times no problem. But I do clean it after every 500 or so rounds because I use cheap and dirty ammo, and I just like cleaning it. Sort of a labor of love!

The DCAEK is the first thing I would change. It is well worth the $75-90 it will cost you and it is easy to do. I also like the AEK trigger upgrade but I am going to wait for the polymer one for my other m&p. I also want the RAM but I need the thumb safety one when it comes out. I run theTrijicon HD sights and like them a lot. I'm going to send mine to ATEI for the stipple work because I'm sick of waiting on Boresight Solutions to call my number (10 months now).

DCAEK and RAM will be worth the price even though you probably will shoot it fine without those upgrades.

I added a strap from a bicycle inner tube and immediately gained a bunch of control. You could do that for a cheap and not-so-permanent of a solution.

The tube was from one of our "mountain' bikes. I turned the tube inside out, put the gun in a vice... obviously do what it takes to protect the gun... and stretched the tube right into position.

Yea, I got the tube on there without securing the gun, but it took three or four times as long.

Yes. Yes it does.

I'd say get it and shoot the heck out of it. After a number of rounds down range, you'll have a better idea of what you want or need.

Of mine, my M&P compact has only had the front sight blacked out (couldn't get the darn dot to fall out like everyone else's) and added a stippled grip adapter after a particularly sweaty class where I discovered the benefit.

On my full size, I changed out the sights and removed the safety.

Basically, I must have won the M&P lottery since out of a Full sized, compact, compact .45, and Shield, all of the triggers were just fine as-is.
