THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I was sent the safety lever, spring and cam from an m&p 45 and installed them into my sear housing block yesterday, works great! So to put this to rest, you can turn a non thumb safety VTAC to a thumb safety very easily. |

Unless you buy a thumb safety gun and take the thumb safety parts from it, you cant.

Even if it has the cutout in the frame? It just has the plugs in it which made me believe i could add a thumb safety. If not i guess i can buy a different sear housing block if I want to add the safety.

What you need is the TS lever, and the spring/detent that goes into the sear housing block. I would check Brownells and Speed Shooters Specialties for the parts. |

I pulled the safety off my other one to try, fits fine but the part on the sear housing block that would be engaged by the safety is not there so it will do me no good. I think the sear housing blocks are only ~30 to order so I will call and find out if that'll work.

Thanks that'll save me from the whole sear housing block. |

And feel free to let us know how you get the spring/detent that goes in said sear housing block (hint hint, S&W won't sell it; read what I wrote carefully)...for the record I have a Thumb Safety VTAC... |

I did...and if you can get it from Brownells or Speed Shooters let me know...but it will probably be hard to if S&W won't sell it to them... ;)
Fact of the matter is the only way to get the parts needed to convert a VTAC to a Thumb Safety VTAC is to obtain the parts from a thumb safety equipped gun. |

S&W sells parts to distributors that they don't sell to the general public. |

Call the distributors and let us know if they have the spring/detent ;)

Did you try searching through the Equipment Exchange here? If not try the Smith and Wesson Forums. I've seen some people put up their thumb safety parts for sale.

I'm pretty sure I still have all the parts from a M&P 45 when I took off the safety lever. I'm not sure it is the same but either way PM me if interested.

Does anyone want to trade me a thumb safety sear housing block for a non thumb safety, no mag safety, no internal lock. Needs to be 1/8" model.
