Hey guys, I have been visiting local gun shops around here and I walked into one that I have never been in and saw a few guns that sparked my interest. One of them was a brand new S&W 3rd gen. I was surprised to see it was new, but it did not have any wear that I could see. Since I don't know this shop, I don't know their prices, so I came to you guys for advice. Their price for the Smith 910S was $500. Is that a good deal? What else can you tell me about these?

From what I understand S&W "found" a number of these recently in the back of their vault, and sold them off. So they are new, but made a few years ago.

A dealer here had a few for I think $650 (if I remember correctly). But this is Mass., and everything is more expensive here.

To me though, $500 sounds like a nice price. I'd buy it, but I'm a sucker for anything 3rd Gen anyway.

The S&W model 910 was the value model of 3rd generation autos. The pistols had melonite instead of blued or SS finish and a few polymer parts on the few last run of pistols. The pistols did not use Novak or adjustable sights. The model 908 was similar in size to the 3913/3914, the 909 was similar to the 3904 and the 910 was similar to the 5904. These pistols had less machining on the slides and frames and were the budget buy to be more competitive price wise. All these pistols performed the same way but did not have ambidextrous safeties IIRC.

To me $500 is pretty high even for a new 910. A 5904 in like new shape hardly brings over $400 around my area. Really kind of depends on your area and market. When these were new they sold for maybe $100 less than a 5904. Basically it boils down to whether you want the pistol for that price. To me the collector value would be less than most other 3rd gen S&W.

I see a lot of used 910 & 915's for less than $300, and many 5006's & 6906's for $300 or less.

CDNN has (police trade in) 5906's for like $299.00. It's a touch higher grade than the 910. I have a 915 and that's more than I would give for it. $299.00 is about right for a 5906 but it has adjustable and/or night sights and ambi safety plus it's stainless. Just MIHO. YMMV.

I have been keeping my eyes open for either a 910/915 or 5906 local here in AZ. The CDNN offer for 299 on the 5906's is a great deal.

These were all before everyone went to polymer framed pistols. I know the 5906's I saw locally a few years ago were for police trade in's with lost of wear. Im afraid thats what CDNN is going to be as well. There is a guy on gun broker selling 910's for 230-280 75% - 90% range. And I think that could be a good option as well.

I had a chance to buy up to two 910s for $150 each many years ago. A good friend of mine and a member of my national guard unit was also a member of the cumberland md city police department, the department was allowing officers to buy the old 910s, they were switching to Sig P229s in .40 call. Jackie went and bought a few off the guys didnt really want them for a few dollars over what they paid for them, and offered me the last two he was selling for $150 each. I still kick myself in the ass for passing that up. I had a ruger P89 at the time and figured that was all the 9mm pistol I would ever need. God I was dumb.
