I was looking to fill an empty spot in the .40 cal dept of my safe.. all these rounds...no gun.  I am mostly a Sig guy and was looking for a P226 in .40, then got to thinking..... my favorite shooting pistol is still my M9, so logically I am wondering how the Beretta 96 shoots?  I'm sure the action is just as smooth as my M9 and my Brigadier... I see the 96A1 from time to time For sale... any reason I shouldn't own one? any known issues?  and what should be the price range I am looking at? I would like the 96A1 but if I come across a used no rail 96 I may bite...  thanks for your help...

You can always get a 96a1 and snag a 9mm barrel for it too.

I've got a 96 Vertec INOX, and with the exception of it being 40 and having 10 round mags (some 11) it's just as nice as any 92 I have owned.
The 96D models and Centurion models are sometimes the best priced surplus guns out there due to the Border Patrol trade-ins.

I have two 96A1's and won't part with either of them., Shoot as well as my Sig P226's and can simply get a 92 barrel and swap it out when you want to shoot 9mm.

Really? I'm just getting into beretta pistols and that is good to know.

funny I forgot I made this post... my search continues... Academy sports has a few locally... I just can't seem to spend the $678 on a new one.. so I keep checking local pawn shops and gun stores for a nice used one.  I just missed a 96A1 at a local pawn shop.. he said it sold for $450... I'll find one eventually.

Although not a 96A1, there's an online shop that I've used before that has a 90-two with night sights.  It's not $450 though.

Love my Elite II .40

One of the smoothest .40 S&W guns I've ever had.

guys who own a 96, how is the recoil on them, snappy like a Glock 22 or more mild?

Well, I love my G22 and my 96. I don't find the G22 to have bad recoil. I find the Sigs in general to be bad. The 96 is smooth to me.

I wouldn't say the 22 was bad, I guess I was so used to shooting my 17 and 34. The 22 felt a hell of a lot better than a 23

I have owned  a Glock 23 and a currently own a Sig 229 .40... the Glock has no more Snap than the Sig, but it did eject the casings ALOT farther than the sig.  I can't wait to get a 96, I'll probably cave and just buy a BN one eventually... then with my luck one will show up locally for under $500
