Ended up with a 96fs in trade pistol is in pretty good cond and doesnt appear to have a very high round count. It can with box and paper work but Sadly I only have one 10 round mag for it. My only experience with beretta was the M9 while in the army, this one is much nicer. Anyone know if I can drop in a 92fs barrel and be gtg with 9mm?

Probably but I would consider  it a range toy only, just to cover your ass.
This is from myexperience with Xd's. The only drop in conversion I would walk the street with is a 40>357sig due to exact case head dimensions.

Personally, I would buy a complete 92FS/M9 upper if you are wanting to shoot 9mm from the 96FS. The frame will work fine with a 9mm upper assembly. As far as magazines are concerned, MecGar makes 13 and 15 rd magazines for the 96, but i have had best results with Beretta factory 11-rd mags. I would probably replace the recoil spring for good measure, but other than that, I do like the 96 series pistols. The 96FS is not a good candidate for conversion to the 357 Sig cartridge. I did this to a 96FS several years ago and despite running a heavier recoil spring, it beat the slide and frame in short order. IMO, the 40 S&W is borderline extreme as far as what the basic 92/96 design will handle. The 357 Sig is simply too much.

From all that I have read yes you can just drop in a 9mm barrel and you're good to go. Head over to berettaforum.net and browse around.

I doubt ill do the conversion or keep it around for very long, this platform just doesn't do anything my glocks don't. I might add some Hogue grips and shoot it a couple more times though

I know that you can do the conversion with a 96 (40S&W) frame but not a 92 (9mm) frame.
Beretta sold combos that did this a while back.
The 92 frame can't handle it.

Good people and they know their stuff.

Aside from the ejector and the 96FS frame having a slighter wider cutout on the feed ramp portion of the frame,  the 92FS and 96FS frames are the same. You can run a 92FS upper on a 96FS frame as well as run a 96FS upper on a 92FS frame.

Breechface is different on the 96, i.e. larger. While it may shoot 9mm most of the time, it won't be anywhere near reliable.

Shoot it as it is.
Buy more mags and ammo.
