If you follow SIG on any social media, you've probably seen that the 320X5 has started shipping this week

Yup... Local Sig shop got a couple in yesterday. They look nice and feel good in the hand. I already have a full size 320 so I will hold off on one for now.

Parts of the X-series P320's ARE 100% interchangeable with "standard" P320 parts.  Having or or the other doesn't "obsolete" or negate you from using and/or interchanging with the other.

Here's a picture of my X5 grip module with a "standard" full size slide assembly

Lucky lucky, I tried like hell to get an X frame from Sig in 2016 pulled every string I had, no joy...:(

I learned about the X frames in 2016 when I shot the 320 Target model at shot show.  The pre production target models we handled and shot were the test beds for the 320 X series pistols.

Yep - quite a bit changed from the Target models.  After Phil Strader came on board, he helped standardize and push it through the way it sits now as the X5.

Went to my LGS and put down money to secure the first p320 x-vtac that they'll get.  Total price was $779.99 +tax.

A Sig factory rep at a Sig demo shoot two weeks ago told me these were shipping in late June, early July. As soon as he turned around, the guy who runs the "official" Sig Sauer store in Phoenix told me not to really expect it (or the X-Carry) until September at the earliest, because Sig had said back in January that these would ship no later than the end of March, which then became June, and now they're saying August.

I like the gun but those sights are too busy for my liking.

I don't have experience with the sights myself but from what I've seen in videos and reviews they seem to actually not be busy.  In bright situations the fiber optic really pops and the tritium vials were barely visible and opposite for dark conditions.

What's going on with the carry sized gun is that a normal 320 slide on an xframe?

Yes - it's an X-Carry grip mod with a standard compact/carry slide.

Mixing X grip mods and standard slides are some of my favorite setups.  The X5 grip mod with magwell removed and a standard full size slide is one of my favorite pistols.
