I have a circa 2004 Sig P229.

The factory grips leave a lot to be desired. They feel blocky in my hand and to me the texture is too rough.

Could anyone suggest a slimmer feeling, more sturdy grip to help improve the ergos of this gun?

Thanks!

You could do the E2 grip upgrade.

I did this on my M11-A1 and like it much better than the standard grips that it had.

If for some reason you don't care for the one piece E2 grip, the Hogue G-10's are thinner than the stock Sig grips.

Another vote for the E2 grips.  But they are rougher than the original grips, so you might need to take some sandpaper to them to smooth them off a bit.

I tried e2. They are thinner.  I settled on the hogue g10's.   I think if I had a full size trigger on my m11 I would have preferred the e2's

>>I settled on the Hogue g10's.<<

Ditto that. I guess I'm one of those who doesn't consider the E2 to be an "upgrade."

I too have a 2004 Sig P229. I agree with you on the grips. I did the E2 upgrade.. I really liked them, my hands are more medium to small sized.. made a WORLD of difference for me. They are rougher, and grip to skin contact can cause chaffing, especially in the summer.

Here's the Hogue (Pirahna's) on my 226 that I installed for the exact reasons you mentioned about your 229.  I also have an 229 Enhanced Elite with the E2s and can say that the G-10s do not feel as thin as my E2 so they are a great middle of the road if you dont like the E2s.

I like the E2s but they look like the texture is way to aggressive.

Do you consider the G10 plastic grips to be just as good as the aluminum?

The P229 is already heavy. I would rather save the weight.

The E2 grips are less agressive than G10's...

Also, the G10's are not much thinner than the factory grips.

I like them both, but prefer the E2 grips on a Sig.

How difficult is it to put the E2 grips on an older P229?

Super easy, it will come with a new hammer strut, hammer strut seat, and mainspring.  Once you swap those parts out it goes on like a clamshell.

There are several YouTube videos on the install, and it should take you about 10min.

While you have the gun apart I would also install a SRT kit and short trigger if you don't already have them, it's a huge upgrade from the original.

Here is my P226R with the above mentioned upgrades.
