Specifically the 18rd for P226

I've had a few over the years for different guns and they seem to work. I understand they are OEM for some companies. I just don't know anything about the 18rd for the 226. I only have factory mags at the moment.

Just as good, if not better, than factory.

Isn't Mec-Gar the OEM for SIG?

They're definitely better than Check Mate, the other OEM.

I believe both have been the OEM at different times.

I got to play with some in the past, no complaints.  Just range use though.  I've heard overwhelmingly positive about them.

This is in contrast to their single stack 1911 mags that get mixed reviews here.

GTG  The Sig 320 mags are MecGar. They are the best mags out there for Sigs and others.

I have a handful of the 20s. GTG in my experience.

This is correct, several companies have made the OEM magazines to Sig specifications (15rd IIRC)

The commercially produced Mec-Gar 18 and 20 round magazines are superior.

They're good mags, but I wouldn't say superior unless capacity is the only criteria.

I consider the 15 rounders superior because the follower and spring are more robust, longer lasting, and less likely to malfunction.

I don't see any reduction in reliability between the 15 and 18 round variants, and IMHO 15 rounds in a magazine that size is ludicrous.

YMMV

You will if you use 'em long enough.  The 20s will start to failing to lock back before the 18s do.  Take a spring and follower out of a Sig Mec-Gar 15 rounder and an 18 and you'll see what I'm talking about.  The 15 rounders are build just like an H&K mag.  I'm talking about 9mm 226 mags, the 15 round 229-1 mags are a bad idea imo.

I have a variety of mags for my 226ST and STE.

I prefer the Mecgar mags over EVERY mag avalible. Carry with an 18 and backup mag is a 20.

I am pretty sure Mecgar is still the producer of magazines for the P220 series of pistols coming out of the sig factory.

How about this: under what circumstances is buying the nickle plated mags better than the regular blued?

Any time it's a new megcar mag.

I have also had good results with the Nickel ACT mags.

Mec-Gar is the OEM supplier to most of the European manufacturers and are consider one of the premier magazine manufacturers in the world. I try them first when I want spares.
