Congratulations on picking up those classic SIGs for yourself.

Lube them very liberally with a good grease ( I use TW 25B);  they'll run very reliably for you and the alloy frames will hold up to a very high round count.

When you need springs and other small parts try Top Gun Supply.

Good luck with your SIGs, I know you'll enjoy them.

Aluminum frame is better for carry not as good for recoil.

My fav carry pistol since 1986

I've got a circa 96 P220.  It's been a great pistol.  You should enjoy it.

I like the .357 Sig cartridge.  May not have found its useful niche like 10mm.  But it is still a good hopped up 9mm.  You could always get a .40 barrel and use the cheaper and more affoardable ammo.

If you like to own multiple calibers .357 Sig is a smart buy as a hedge against the next panic. It never disappeared from the shelves.

If you reload, stocking up on .357 Sig brass now would still be wise. Starline had wait times for all popular handgun cases.

I believe the .357 Sig round is one of the slowest to gain popularity, but know of a good sized police force who went over to it recently.

I have a feeling it will be even a more mainstay round in the future for people who are serious about the possibility of getting into gun fights (police, law enforcement, three-letter agencies), while 9mm will remain popular for the average Joe to carry and target shoot with.

Not to go off topic, but I just picked up a new p220. Should all of the P series sigs use grease on the rails?

My W. German 220 is one of my favorite pistols.  You did well, herring-breath.

Congrats on the 220. I have a newer one, the Equinox version and love it. Accurate and fun to shoot.

Love my P220.  I got a department trade in ... can't remember where I got it.  Anyway, it's replaced my 1911 as my go-to battle belt pistol.  That minor hearsay being said, as much as I love my 1911s, I REALLY love the P220 and I think I shoot it better.  She's a pussycat with 200gn lead semi wadcutters.

The CPO guns are parts put together by Sig from some complete guns but a few are from a few pieces/parts. I had a CPO firearm as well years ago. This in no way saying they are bad guns by any means, as Sig goes through each one and adds parts/pieces as needed to make it reliable. Slides/frames/barrels are universally fit with the same model, so it is no big deal other than some minor variances in color schemes which is normal for their new guns as well. Some parts are refinished or replaced, depending on wear, damage, etc.. I asked about this as well and was given this response. I like them as they are cheaper than new but just as reliable. I think they have a lifetime warranty on them, at least I thought mine did.

I just ordered a certified used P229 from Bud's and I'm hoping it's in great shape like the one you got.  I got mine in .40 and have already ordered a .357 Sig barrel for it, to enjoy the best of both worlds :)

Picked up my P229 yesterday.  Very clean and it's in great shape.  Can't wait to hit the range with it tomorrow!

Both are good buys IMO

The 357 SIG is expensive but a damn freight train ballistically.

I love the .357 sig on paper and wish I had one.  I think the 239 in that caliber is more desirable since there really isn't any other carry guns in .357 sig.  I had a chance to talk to the security detail (plain clothes state trooper) for Tennessee's Lt. Governor and he told me they carry .357 sig and love them.  Said it beat everything else for penetrating windshields and eliminating a threat.  And for a pistol round the accuracy and knockdown it gave at further ranges exceeded anything they expected.  And the Secret Service carries it too so I don't think it's an odd caliber at all.

Interesting, The Sportsman's Guide has a sale on "pre-owned" Sig Sauer P220 pistols right now, I think the price is around $520, delivered to your FFL. As I already have a nice two tone model, I'm not in the market for a relatively plain P220, but they seem nice, and the price seems good, for those interested.

Meh, carried one for decades in Arizona, dust there will eat a Sig with grease on it.
