I've got a p6 I carry daily and a 229 in .40 I wear around the yard, garage and cabin.  I found a used 228 that's been through the CPO program from Sig.  It seems like a decent price.  It seems like it'd be a little better suited for ccw as a step between the p6 and 229 when I want more rounds but a smaller package still.  Do I "need" to buy this?  How's the supply of mags or parts?  Currently it's DAO and I'd probably convert to sa/da so Id need to take that in consideration for price.

Since you already have your other Sigs, maybe you don't need the P228 for carry, but the 228 is my fav Sig.  in old school folded slide balances better than the heavy milled stainless ones in the p229.  I sold my p229 and kept my p228.  Do you need a 228?  probably not.  Do you want a 228, I think yes.

Yes you do need a P228.  The P228 was my first Sig I bought years ago because it was marked W. Germany.  I scored it cheap too ever since I bought it dropped in SRT I became a Sig P22x fan.

It's up to you, but I have a 228 and love it. And if I found a good deal on one and had the cash to blow, I'd pick up another one.

I would say yes.

My first sig was a 9mm p229, non railed.  My next was a cpo p228, love it.  The 2 pistols are almost identical, I can swap slides, barrel, etc.  only difference is the 229's slide is heavier.  I like the balance of the 228 better.

I even just bought one of the p228 slide assemblies from apex.  I'm not exactly why though.  the frame will wear out before the slide does.

In your case the slides will not be a simple swap, need to replace some parts to Use a 228 slide on a 40 229.

Yes the 228 is IMO the best all around Sig of the P22x series

Get yourself some 15 round Mecgars.

Love mine.

Of course you need a 228.  The 228 was my first sig and I have been in love with them ever since.

I have two older Sigs (a P-226 made in 1988 and a P-229 made in 1994) and both shoot great; however, if I could find an older P-228 I would snag it in a heartbeat. It is my favorite Sig in size; it fits my hand perfectly.

Yep, no question, shoots great and carries just as good or better.

Yes you need one.  I picked up a West German on Gun Broker a while back for $805.  Had the box, target, booklet and triple serial numbers.  Probably payed a little much for it, but watched one just like it sell for almost $1300 last night.  They are only going up.  Grab it while you can...!!

Picked up a trade in 228 on Gunbroker and had it refinished.  It shoots great but I did change out the major springs and added night sights.

Cerakote H, satin graphite black.   I also had my 226 done also which was a 20 year old police trade in.
