I am looking to get my first sig. I really like them all i have now are glocks, just want to add something different to the stable. That being said I really like the P229...Thoughts on it or any other Sigs I should be looking at in comparable size.

Thanks,

The 229 is my favorite of the Sigs.  Same size as a 228 but with a milled slide instead of a stamped slide w/insert.  With the smaller trigger I needed to make it perfect I have been able to out shoot all the CID agents in the three state region at their own Qualification.  My issue was in .40 S&W but with the barrel change to .357 Sig it was much more accurate.

I have several - 226, M11-A1(repackage 228/229), 1911 RCS Sport(commander size) and just purchased a 1911 Fastback(full size).

Depending on what you want it for - 226 is very good - used as a range gun, night stand and training.

For EDC, I alternate between the M11 and the RCS Sport.

The Fastback will have its first range trip this weekend.

All are more accurate than me. As for round count, probably 5,000 +- in the 226, around a 1,000 each in the M11 and RCS. Multiple brands of ammo, cheap target/plinking stuff and more expensive defensive stuff.

The only problems I had with any of them were with the SIG magazines for the RCS, fail to feed, which I think is due to weak springs, using Wilson magazines, no problems at all.

OP, I agree, the P229 (or M11) is the sweet spot in Sigs.

What's the difference in the M11 vs the P229 or P228?

Not an expert by any means -

the M11 has a short reset trigger and coated internal parts, stainless steel slide, night sights as standard. I believe you can add the SRT to the 229/228.

Everything else about the M11 is pretty much the same as a 229. An original 228, made in Germany is a gem if you can find one. The way the slide was manufactured made it lighter than the 229 slide (which was developed to handle 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG).

To me the SRT is really sweet for my medium size hands and I can really notice it compare to the standard trigger in my 226. One of these days, I'll probably put one into the 226.

p220 is kinda the classic Sig for me.  I don't own one, but one day I will
p226 is a great and classic Sig.  I love mine.  I was going to recommend the p226 or p220 as protypical Sigs, but the above replies I found interesting.

p229 in .40 was my first ever handgun, and it is still my favorite.  Shooting in back to back with my p226 (9mm) I shoot the p229 a little better.

I really like all the p series Sigs.  the ergonomics suit me well.  I like the DA/SA platform.

2022 if you want DA/SA, P320 if you want striker-fired like your Glock.

Yeah, this.  Out of 226 Navy, 229 SAS, 228R, 220 and 227..........227 is the favorite.  1911's have been put out to pasture as well.

I'm a Glock guy too, however over the years I have owned a number of Sigs ranging from a 220, 228, 226, 2022, Tacops 1911, and the only one I've held onto and still love and shoot is the P229 Enhanced Elite. Absolutely awesome gun, especially suppressed.

That said, the gun I most regret ever selling is the TacOps 1911.

Either way, you're making a good choice with the 229. It's a lot of gun for the money and an absolute pleasure to shoot.

Bought a P229R some years ago in .40 cal. Added the 357 Sig & 9mm Barsto conversion barrel. It's one of my favorites.

P226 in .40 is my EDC. I just bought my first sig about 2 months ago and once you own one you WILL be ruined, no other pistol will compare

ETA: make sure you get the DA/SA model, none of that other crap

I'm a Glocktard too!  Just got a Sig P226 Enhanced Elite 9mm.  NO REGRETS!  What a difference from the P226 I had 25+yrs ago!  The trigger, while not as good as a Glock trigger, is probably the best DA/SA trigger you'll find.  Get the P226 Elite, you'll be glad you did!

You can't go wrong with a Sig P229. I have one and absolutely love it. It is in 40 SW and is a great shooter! That being said I have two P226s (9MM and 40 SW) and a P220. I carry a Glock 22 for work, but I carry the Sigs off duty.

You're used to Glocks?  Try a compact P320.  It's G19 sized, has an awesome trigger, and the ability to change size and calibers almost endlessly.

I LOVED my W. German P228, my .40 and .357 P229, and the other Sigs I've owned, but I vastly prefer having one trigger pull vs DA/SA.  The trigger on the 320 is just excellent.

This right here. As a matter of fact I'm switching my EDC piece back to my old W. German P228 as soon as I get a new holster.
