I can get a NIB M11-A1 for $700 out the door from a dealer friend of mine or a very good condition, lightly used German P228 for $650+ tax from another dealer I know. That puts them at about the same price. I'd love to have the German 228 to go with my German P226, but a brand new M11 with night sights sounds appealing too.
Should I pull the trigger on one of these or take my chances and wait to try to get a CPO somewhere? I hear they're getting pretty hard to come by these days at a decent price and when they are available, they sell out quickly. What say you?

I voted the 228, since they are getting harder to find in great shape.

I voted for the German 228. You've already got the 229 you mentioned and the 228 would be a perfect sibling for it. That's just my opinion though.

Then you could save your $$ for a while and then get an M11-A1 in true ARFCom fashion and get both later on down the road.

I'm leaning toward the German. From what I'm seeing, it's not a bad price (for either one.)

Definitely get a German P228. Nothing else is like one.

Well, I let the M11 go and pulled the trigger on the German. $700 out the door. Haven't picked it up yet, just layed it away; a little less painful that way and I can pay cash instead of putting it on plastic. Of course I'll post pics when I bring it home.

I think that was a smart move, at least that is what I would have done.  Ditto to what is said above about finding a P228 in decent shape.
Please post your pics....

Good buy on the 228. Just purchased an M11. Nice and all, but would like to have a real 228.

Around $700 is too much for a used 228, IMO. I got mine new 2 years ago for $800 after shipping and tax, and that included night sights.

I don't disagree that $700 is too much for a used pistol...any pistol, IMO, but Germans in good condition are getting harder to come by and I could've paid $100+ more for a brand new one and it'd look just like this one after one trip to the range....although I could've gotten the new M11 for the same price
The one I got does have night sights, though.
