Looking at getting a 2022. I have a 226. I've read its a polymer 226 not sure how true those statements are and would like to hear from those that have one. I live in a semi rural area so I dont have the luxury of well stock gunshops to check one out.
For the most part think of the SP2022 as a poor mans version of the P226, that said they shoot great I have both, the trigger on the P226 is a little nicer but the SP2022 is lighter, However if I were you and you already have a P226 why not look at getting a P320, that would give you something a little more different, and you would not be caliber limited.
The SP2022 comes on 40 S&W also. Check out the picture post at the top to see some examples.
I made fun of the SigPro line when it came out in the late 90s. Copying Glock, but not going striker, etc.
I finally picked one up for $350 last spring/summer. It is an EXCELLENT pistol at that price. I prefer the classic SIGs for the grip options (I have big hands), but the SP2022 is a heck or a shooter. If I could improve it, it would be to shorten up the reset like SRT SIGs (no SRT is available for the SP2022) and more customizable grip options. |
I have 2 SP2022s along with a bunch of P22x Sigs.
1 of the 2022s wears my EVO 9 for HD. Great pistols. |
I had two 9mm and 40, I sold the 9mm just because I have so many other 9mm and the only 40 is the 2022. I just have never gotten use to a DA/SA. I am HP to the core but they do feel good though.
I'm in the market for a 2022 also. For those who carry them: How do you like it?
I like my 9mm 2022.
One mod that I did to mine is to install the roco systems flat mag bases. I don't know why but I don't like the finger rest mag bases they come with from the factory. The roco systems bases just "feel right" to me, plus they make the 2022 just a smidge easier to carry (probably just a mental "think they are easier" thing) and they remind me of my old P228 I sold a long time ago. I also think it is because I'm used to shooting HK pistols with flat mag bases. |

A couple things to note if buying this firearm.
1.) Buying new. Comes in a cardboard box with one extra grip and one magazine. 2.) Magazines are a bit of a challenge to get. Most LGS don't stock them. If at a good price online they typically sellout pretty quick and takes a bit to restock. The last time I saw the gun in a store I think it was 425-450. Kinda high prices specially when one magazine comes with it. I like the gun a lot but would recommend buying used if the prices are still at that price range. |
I love my 2022. Got the full FDE 9mm. Only have about 500 rounds through it so far, but it has never failed me.

I did the S&W baseplate thing at first but I didn't like the connection they had. The roco baseplates are properly tabbed and fit like a glove... I should get out my 2022 and get pics of it when I get home tonight.

He did say "Buying new. Comes in a cardboard box with one extra grip and one magazine." so maybe in 2012 and 2013, they came NEW in cardboard boxes but buying new now gets you a plastic case. So, new coming in a cardboard box is outdated info. |

I worked for both cabelas and academy. I sold a ton of these 2022 until the panic happened. I was in the market and was thinking about but was able to buy a Colt Delta Elite for $500. Then I was in the market again but the PPQ came in (the 2022 was going hire in price but did have a coworker try to convince different) and decided to get that. I'll eventually get the 2022 but knowing me I'll be getting a MK25 next lol unless I find an awesome used price 2022. Sad thing is in my AO not many buy it them. Unsure why. |
I bought one for the wife for Christmas and she loves it. I think it handles better than my MK25. She likes it better than my Glock's. Thats where we disagree. Anyways if you get one its a relay good pistol.

I carry one almost everyday. Love the thing, and the trigger is great out of the box. I really like that baseplate above, I just cut the standard one flat.

I had read on the net some people had issue with the location of the slide release and how their thumb would push up against it and cause unintentional hold open.
I had that exact problem. I simply cut out a small piece of aluminum and epoxied it under the slide release to stop my thumb from unintentionally causing slide lock. I've since run hundreds of rounds without a single issue. |

I purchased mine on this past black Friday. It came with a second magazine, plastic paddle holster, second grip, and night sights all in the plastic case. While on sale it was priced at 380. It also had the steel guide rod.

My local Academy Sports has magazines, they are a little more expensive than CDNN, though

I bought a used one at the show yesterday for $350. 9mm, 2 mags, night sights, plastic case, dirty and definitely used but cleaned up well. I promptly slid on a Insight M3 and like it alot. Now to hit up CDNN for more mags. Pics to come soon.
It has a plastic guide rod. Is it worth $20 to upgrade to stainless? Are there any commercially available trigger upgrades out there? Factory isn't bad but I'd like to try an improved version if available. ETA: This is not the first Sig I've shot but is the first Ive owned. Previous shot were 220, 226, 229, 239, and M11. |
traded out of mine yesterday for a heavily upgraded RIA 1911 9mm compact with a buttload of accessories too. Enjoy yours!

According to the box (nice plastic case) it was made in 2012. I noticed that as well but I don't know enough about Sig to know what's correct. If it helps, the larger grip also says Sig Pro.
I also noticed your takedown notch is close to the middle of the slide than most. No one has been able to identify why it moved, then moved back to the front again.
My theory is they moved it rearwards due to complaints of being difficult to field strip and reassemble. Then I'd bet they got reports of the pin sliding when it wasn't supposed to (while firing) and moved to forward again. |
