My 266 Mk25 came with 3 factory 15 rd. mags marked SIG 9mm Mec-Gar Made In Italy.

In looking around for extra mags to stock up on I see that I have several options on new magazines. Top Gun Supply has these listed:

Mec-gar mag

SIG mag

Is there a difference I`m not seeing, other than price, between the SIG factory mags and the Mec-Gar mags?

Since the SIG factory mags my pistol shipped with were made by Mec-gar I can figure what difference there is between the two types.

I am not a Sig guy but a large number of manufacturers use MecGar as their OEM supplier for magazines.  This includes Walther and Browning, for instance.

The only difference I have found is differences in external finishes or the color of the followers.  For instance, you might find a magazine that is MecGar that is brightly blued, while a factory marked magazine may have a matte finish.

In other words, big whoop.

OP the difference is one is retailed by Mec-Gar and the other by Sig, that's it.

As stated above, Mec-Gar makes extremely high quality mags (both OEM aftermarket and factory branded) for many pistol manufacturers.

You can't go wrong with Mec-Gar 18s or 20s, they're very reliable.  In this case, them being cheaper just means you're saving money.

Sig uses both Mec-Gar and Check Mate mags for its pistols.

If the mags say made in Italy, they are Mec-Gar.
If the mags say made in USA, they are Check Mate.

Mec-Gar mags are good to go.

If Top Gun has them cheaper than Sig branded Mec-Gar's, then happily buy them and save money.

Forgot to say, check Grabagun OP.  I've picked up Mec-Gar 18s and 20s there at decent prices in the past.

Usually ~$23 - $25 shipped for the 18s.  Can't recall the 20 price at the moment though.

It's been said enough, but Greg Cote is good to go. If he happens to not have stock, Top Gun Supply is great too.

And for whoever asked, those mags in the pic actually aren't zipperback, they're dovetail. There are also zipperback versions. If I'm not mistaken, they're both old SIG factory. Now they're outsourcing mags. Haven't had experience with Checkmate SIG mags, because my 1911 ones are crap. Mec-Gar is the only way to go.

Got a .40 226 that chokes on a Mecgar but runs fine on factory mags.  E-mailed Mecgar 3 weeks ago and haven't heard back.  Must have gotten a bad one. YMMV.

I concur with the majority of replies so far.

All of my research points to Mec-gar supplying Sig with white label mags - at least currently.  Based on this, I purchased three of the 20-round Mec-Gar Optimum Mags for my MK25.  Internally and externally they look identical to the three mags that came with the Sig from the factory.  Moreover, they were a fraction of the cost.   I've run roughly 200 rounds through them without any problems.

FYI that Exile Machine has comparable prices.  A few pennies better perhaps depending on exactly what mags you're looking for.

Does the zipper back denote an actual Sig factory mag? My work has a .50 ammo can full of P228 mags, nearly all of them have the zigzag/zipper back and I wondered what the difference was.
