So I am going to try using a 9mm CONVERSION threaded barrel in my older 40 cal 229. Which 9mm mags to get?

The 40 caliber mags will work OK for range use.

I use the 9mm P226 magazines with X-Grip adapter plate (to extend the grip a bit). I think I'm using the older 17 rounders. X-Grip has specific requirements for the base plate to work.

Other than that, any 9mm P229 or P226 magazine will work fine. It may be a little loose side to side depending on the frame, but it should work fine. I've had no issues at all and my P229 is 10 years old or so.

My Barsto conversion barrel has been 100% reliable.

P229-1 mags were purposed designed to fit the .40 magwell when they started building 9mms on .40 frames.
