Is there any compelling reason NOT to get a 229 instead of a 226 as a 1st sig?? Intention would be as a do it all gun, carry and nightstand , much like a g19. Thanks, Bill

as for the 9mm Configure

229 32oz for 13 rounds

226 34oz for 15 rounds

2022 29oz for 15 rounds and about half the price

My order would follow as 226 then 2022 then 229. I really don't understand what the point of the 229 is anymore Specially with the SP2022 being on the market. It would be a different story if it would take 226 mags but it doesn't. The SP2022 its atleast half the cost so with the money you didn't use buy a light and ammo to practice with

That's my .02

I have a P229 and a P239 (and a P230)..

for me it would be how the gun fits your hand..  The P229 just is too big for my hand..

i bought it as a .22 and then converted  to 9mm..   If it wasnt for wanting a .22 i would probably not buy it..

just my $0.02

229 takes 226 mags.

I must have had bad info then I need to look into this more. That was the whole reason why myself didn't get a 229 because the 226 mags didn't work. I do stand corrected. As to edit my previous post I would still look at the Sp2022 just on a cost basis

Mec-Gar makes flush-fit mags that hold 15 rounds for the P229 and 18 rounds for the P226, and IIRC there are 17-round mags available for the SP2022.

I have a P229 and P226. I enjoy both guns, but the P229 is easier to carry. Both guns take the 15 round P226 mags without any problems. Both are great guns. You will be happy with either model.

Maybe it's just me but the 226, adding the 228 or 229 later (I find the 228 better balanced if you want a 9mm).

I have learned I get better if I start with a full size pistol from any platform, and then work to the more compact models.  That said, I stink at pistols and maybe following my process would lead you to my pattern (or lack thereof).

For do it all, I would have to give the nod to the 229. I have the 226 and it is one of my favorite guns, but I carry AIWB and it is not comfortable there. If you are looking for something comparable to the G19 in size and utility, I think the 229 will be a better match for you.

Obviously the smaller size of the 229 makes the better do-all pistol because of your CCW requirement.

But, do you CCW now, and do you know that you could not CCW a 226 sized pistol as easily as a 229 sized pistol?

Many find that if they wear the clothes that make a 229 sized gun disappear on them that the larger size of a 226 size pistol is not any more difficult to hide.

Plus, I hate the slide shape on those 229s that have the narrower top end without serrations.

Hate them with a passion.

I'd go with the P226.  The 226 gives a bigger sight radius.

Every plus includes a minus.

If sight radius was everything, maybe an AR-15 is the answer?
